How would you answer your 8 years old son who asked " Mum, what is a virgin? And are you a virgin?"

Thanks to the influence of the tv and socia media.  Parents these days, have to be knowledgeble and smart in their responses to their inquisitive children.

8 year old boy i think is old enough to understand. im almost positive he knows what sex is. i have been criticized for my parenting in this manner, but i always tell my daughter like it is. she once asked her teacher what sodomy was. they all of course were shocked and werent sure how to handle it. i just told her plainly what it was and she said "oh". and went on with her life. i always tried not to under estimate how smart , mature and understanding she could be at a young age.

Yes, you are right, they are old and mature enough to get an accurate update from us.  If we do not share with them, they are smart enough to get the information else where.

Just tell him "If Mommy were a virgin, honey, you wouldn't be here"

LOL!  The thing is that he will probe further by asking, what do you mean mum.  They never stop until they get the answer that satisfy their curiosity:)

Answering kids straight-frowardly, with facts, no euphemisms and as simply as possible. So: 'A virgin is someone who has not yet had sex. No, I am not a virgin, because I have had sex with your daddy.' If there are followup questions, answer similarly. Do not add anything that they have not asked about.
