What is a book that has affected your life?
It could be any genre. In what way did it affect or influence you?
In all honesty, I would say all of Nicholas Sparks books. He has so much to say about life, how to live it. The importance of enjoying the people who are in our lives. Never taking life for granted. How important your love can mean to one person. The whole works. I love his message in his books. Whether it is said or not. To me, they are very meaningful. In so many ways.
I have yet to read any of his books, but I like some of the move adaptations so I'll have to pick some up
The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna.
The review of the book is here:http://cvrajan.hubpages.com/hub/The-Gospel-of-Sri-Ramakrishna-What-is-so-great-about-it
Very interesting, I will look into this. Thanks for the review.
I recommend this book extremely highly. It contains the word of a God-man of pure experience.
Warm Bodies, by Isaac Marion. It's too hard to explain. You'd have to read it to understand, but this is some of the most fantastic prose I've ever read in my entire life. The book inspired me to be more than I already am as a writer.
This sounds like a really fun read, I'll definitely add it to my list. Thanks!
I've reviewed it. You should be able to find the review on my profile (:
Little Women - the best damn book to relieve insomnia I've ever come across.
Haha! I started reading that book when I was 14 or so because my sister loved it...I think I only go about halfway through.
Sun Tzu's 'The Art of War'. It might seem overdramatic, but when you read the translated quotes from it, it teaches you not only some fine military strategies but lessons in life that involve rational thought. Common sense is so rare it's a superpower ("My common sense is tingling!"), so this book is good to pick up if you're looking for guidance or a boost of confidence, something I so desperately need.
The Art of War has been on my reading list for years and I just haven't felt up to the challenge yet...I've heard its a must read though. Thanks!
The Autobiography of Frederick Douglass - I was touched by his revelations of learning to read and how it opened his eyes to the atrocities of slavery and how African-Americans were actually viewed. It showed me how the acquisition of knowledge and education can be bittersweet.
I like your question as it fits me extremely well.
I was at home one day in October 1982, when a book dropped onto the floor after having been pushed through the flap of my letterbox. It is called The Path: Autobiography of a Western Yogi. (31 years later, I still have it)
I picked up this book and began to read, and I did not stop until I was finished. More importantly, I felt totally different, long before I finished. 31 years later, I am still following the Path that Swami Kriyananda taught and have even written my own book: My Guru, Sri Chinmoy: Life And Teachings.
I now meditate, am now a God-lover and servant of humanity, and I get tremendous joy in all I do. You may find my book and perhaps also Swami Kriyananda's on amazon.co.uk.
Highly effective people by Stephen R. Covey. This book has really affected my Life so well. But just of recent, there is this new Novel which is making waves over here where I live. The way campus life, sport, emotional saga, romance and poetry were creatively blended is just beyond words. The Title is "The Soul Talkers" I bought it via the internet some days ago and it came to my doorstep. Trust me Victoria, when you read this Novel, you will be pleased you did.
Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. The author was an atheist and the series had a ton of blasphemous stuff in it. I was 12 when I first read it and it made me start to wonder about religion and all that.

Most of us are avid readers, I'd assume. I'd like to give some time to what novels and books have affected you dramatically in some way - such as prompting you to change your life or just opening your mind to a new understanding of certain things. Do you read them again and again and...

What non-fiction book have you read that has changed your life?Personally, I have had a few, but the one that sticks out for me is "Wild at Heart" by John Eldredge. It talks about fatherhood and having a warrior heart.

I'm sure this has been asked tons of times in this forum (yes, I just said tons of times), but I still want to ask. What are some books, or The Book that have/has had a huge impact on your life? I'm not entirely convinced that a book is really capable of changing your life, because to do that you...
