Double standards or something else?: Define a woman who sleeps with a lot men? Now define a man?

Why is  it, that when a women sleeps around she is considered a hoe/slut/whore but when a man does the same he is considered a pimp/player/ "the man"? I have heard many sides of this debate but what is yours? Explain your answer

The word "double" implies (two) as in both men and women agree.
The reason why men who have sex with lots of women aren't looked down as much is because (men) don't put other men down.
Women do put other women down for having sex with a lot of men! In fact there has always been culture war between women who feel that "loose women" are keeping them from finding and keeping a man who will treat them the way they want to be treated and those women who want to be "sexually equal" to men.
The (conservative women) look at sexually active women as the destroyer of courtship traditions. They hate to see women dress in revealing clothing. They dislike strippers, escorts, and pornography. However many of them bought "50 Shades of Grey"
Women also (care what men think) about them. Not many men lose sleep over what women think about them.
What would the world be like if women behaved like men and didn't put each other down? Stopped caring what men thought about them? There would be no "double standard" because both genders would support their own. That would lead to acceptance!

I do agree that men don't put each other down when it comes to sex, but its not only women putting down each other, its men putting down women too!!! Men look down on "loose" women too.  Just as they have conservative women they have conservative men

Men don't care that women put men down! That's the point I'm making!  Why do women care what men think about them? If women stopped caring about what men thought or said and (stopped putting each other down) there would be no double standard!

dashingscorpio that is not what i am talking about did you even read my comment .. I didn't mention women putting men down at all. Reread my comment. By the way I don't see your point, I think we differ over the definition of double standard ........

You said. "but its not only women putting down each other, its men putting down women too!" That's why it's (double). Most women dislike men who are players but since men don't put them down only (one) gender disapproves. What if women did the same

dashingscorpio, a double standard is "a rule or principle that is unfairly applied in different ways to different people or groups." In this case it has been more unfairly applied to women then men. There is a more unfair stigma to women's sexuality
