   I think your first task would be to define what the "American Dream" is. On the one hand, this suggestion doesn't help you answer the question "Is the American Dream still alive, but you can't answer the question until you define it.

   If you take the definition on wikipedia "In the definition of the American Dream by James Truslow Adams in 1931, "life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement" regardless of social class or circumstances of birth" i would think the dream is getting harder to achieve for more and more americans.
   Growing Income inequality and inequality in wealth could be changing the playing field.

   It really depends what you hope to achieve in life. The American Dream for me is still very much alive, the limitations are there, but I still have the right and freedom to change my situation no matter what the difficulties are in life.

   I would question whether the basis of it is good or true or false, whether it ever existed and, if it did exist, for who? My answers to those questions are: that its basis is false and not good and I think it might have existed for some but not really for most people; not in my lifetime anyway. I should put it another way; the dream, dreams being illusions, did exist (in people's minds) but the reality, generally, did not. The "dream" basically is predicated on struggling to live a decent life. Too much emphasis on struggle (usually called "hard work") and too much illusion about being able to have a good life. The two things don't go together. The other illusion is that you can make some kind of a business; yes, if you already have enough money, you can start a business and it will be gobbled up and spit out in pieces by the moronic competitive atmosphere that is America; same will happen to you at the job if you go the fallacious "hard work" route that never gets you anywhere except the hospital eventually.

   The only people who don't believe in "The American Dream" are those who were born here.
   Millions of people around the world still believe if they come to America, work hard , save their money, and start a business or learn to invest they can live a good life.
   There is probably someone who just arrived in this country today who will be a millionaire 5 years from now!
   The U.S. has more multi-millionaires and billionaires than it has ever had and they're getting YOUNGER all of the time!
   Anyone who has the pleasure to travel extensively knows compared to a lot of places in the world the U.S.A. is still the land of opportunity. One just has to have a great idea and a strong will to see it through.

   YES - the American Dream is still alive.
   Regardless of birth environment, every citizen within the USA has the ability to succeed if they take personal action to achieve.
   Additionally, non-citizens continue to seek the American Dream through both legal and illegal activities.  These individuals know that in the USA, you can achieve your desired lifestyle by taking personal responsibility for yourself.

   Absolutely. There are new millionaires every year. Businesses, athletes, actors, and musicians sign multimillion dollar deals every year. People make millions every year in stocks. You have to know how, plan and take action. People who are hypnotised by the news can't see the truth. They foolishly believe the bad news while others ignore it, start new ventures and make millions of dollars. Hard times talk goes back for decades and there are still new multi million dollar companies every year.
