How do you develop and maintain an attitude of gratitude?

When we have an attitude of thankfulness, we display a more positive outlook on life. What steps can we take to cultivate this grateful attitude?

I would say, learn to appreciate the small things people do for you. Don't take them for granted. This includes people you live and work with.

Say thank you when they do something, including things they do every day. Like when they cook dinner, bring you a coffee or clean up.

Treat others with respect and politeness.

Recognise that there are others on this planet with less than you. Be thankful for what you have, instead of getting jealous of what others have

Too often we look for big things to go right, and miss all the small things around us which we can and should appreciate. Gratitude seems to be lacking these days, and it is important to develop. very good question to get people thinking

I think we tend to become more grateful when we see others having so much hardship. I know I have. We notice the small things, stuff that others seem to pass by. Like a bird singing, or even a squirrel playing in a tree. We just need to take time to notice the important things like nature.

True. It's not nice seeing others have hardship, however you do appreciate how things are with you when you see what others are going through. Valuing the beauty around us is important too

Great question. We can develop an attitude of gratitude by Choosing to look for 5 or more things daily to be thankful for, the small things, people in our lives, seeing the good in others, the good in our days, good in hard times, etc. Then, sharing what we are grateful with others and also keeping a journal of things in our lives we are grateful for.

Thanks for responding Janellgems. Very true, I especially like your point about seeing the good in others, many we focus more on the negatives in people.
