   One thing that makes older children in families so highly competitive, and jealous is the loss of attention that they were use to getting as an only child until their younger sisters and brothers arrived in the family.

      This explains why only children are envied by those who have siblings.  Only children have it THE BEST while OLDEST CHILDREN are oftentimes discarded and have it THE WORST!

   They may have a parent that tells them that since they are the first born, they have special rights and are treated more "special" than the other kids. For example, the oldest child gets their very own bedroom while the other children have to share a bedroom until the oldest goes away to college.
   
   Parents may treat the oldest (especially a male child) like they have more intelligence than the other children because they are the oldest.  Also, if there is a narcissistic arrogant know-it-all blowhard father in the picture, you will probably have a male child who grows up to be a narcissistic arrogant know-it-all blowhard, who thinks the world is supposed to step aside for him. What a nightmare of a person.

   Some of the reasons that some oldest children act this way could be that oldest children tend to be used as mini-parents, sitters, maids, butlers, etc. Oldest children can also see favoritism being given to the younger siblings or may clearly remember when they wanted the exact same things or opportunities and were denied by their parents, yet their younger siblings get these same things or opportunities with great enthusiasm. Some may grab for attention because it is heaped onto the younger siblings and not them. It is possible that insecurities can crop up because of a lack of communication or expression of love towards them from their parents and this may also cause them to be competitive.

      Yep that too, then the older sibling turns into a 2-faced back-biter because they view the younger siblings as competition.

      Sad isn't it? Too many parents often do not show love and affection equally or treat all of their children equally which can lead to various problems for the child and others.
