God forbid someone has an opinion about something and is heard talking about it with someone....
It seems to me that people are now no longer able to have their own private thoughts and or opinions. And should they be heard talking about one of their private thoughts or opinions others can now strip them of everything in their life. Do you agree with this?
A thought is no longer private once we've spoken out loud about it to anyone who can hear and understand it. I know this sounds faceteous, but if we talk in the English language to an Ethiopian, for example who doesn't speak it, the only thing we've conveyed is our body language. But to make it clear: it cannot be called a private thought once it is out there.
Once it is out there people interpret the message put out through the filter of their own bias and predujices. We all do it. It's called conditioning. Added to this, in this present 'over the top' age of political correctness, if we say virtually anything at all which can be interpreted by the over-sensitive as some sort of slur, the chances are - in the USA anyway, it seems, someone will want to take us to court and sue us for a lot of money.
A way around this is to write a work of fiction, or an essay, or a short story where no particular reference is made to you, the author, as the one who might be accused of being seemingly biased. Play it safe. Let one of your characters do that.
Good topic, mate. Keep on stirring people up with this one. I'm pretty sure you'll get plenty of responses.
I think a lot of people in general (not all of course, but enough) have become over-reactive to other people's points of view, particularly in areas of politics and religion. It's gotten so that it seems a lot of people can't stomach just sitting and listening to someone of a different viewpoint. They try to justify it by calling it a passion or caring for (whatever side the advocate) but really it's just a new level of intolerance that leads to a breakdown of communications.

Are you able to keep an open mind when it comes to talking about religion with other people. There are many topics talking about religious beliefs, and many of them tend to turn into a heated argument. I am a Christian, and I am strong in my faith, but I tend to keep an open mind and have a good...

Do strongly religious people scare you?I believe in the importance of religious tolerance, but whenever I start a conversation about religion, it seems that someone will always jump in and expound on their beliefs with such vehemence and to the exclusion of all other beliefs that it's frightening....

Do you care if you shower with some one of the LGBT community? I'm talking about in armed forces. Honestly I have to ask because of this ''Should the U.S. Military allow men and woman to take showers together?'' I underst and how some straights may feel but at the end of the day if you showered in...
