Is mercy killing applicable to a cat who lost two limbs because of an accident?
The incident happened to my neighbor's sweet cat. I was really fond of him to the point that I buy him snacks every time I visit the near mini-mart. The sad part is that my neighbor decided to kill him out of mercy to end his suffering. His action really frustrated me. What are your thoughts?
There can be cconvincing points on both the sides. For example, mercy killing of the cat will put to end the sufferings of the poor cat. Whereas the theory of karma suggests that every living being has to undergo the reward or punishment of his previous deeds. Therefore the faster the living being goes through the punishment the better it is. Otherwise it will linger on. Therefore, both ways it is right - depends how you look at it!
It would probably depend on the level of impairment and ongoing pain for the cat. There's a cat rescue in my town that currently has two 2-legged cats, and they're trying to rehabilitate both. One cat has a missing front leg and opposite back leg -- it's actually getting around quite well now without additional support. The other is missing both back legs. It's not doing well at the moment, but it only lost them a couple of weeks ago. If the rescue can get enough donations, there are prosthetic options for it.
These two cats are the victims of someone in a nearby town (who is still unknown) who deliberately cut their legs off. While this is probably the most terrible reason for cats to be missing legs, at least it does mean that they had clean cuts and no additional injuries. A cat that lost its legs in an accident may have had shattered bone and internal injuries, so there may have not been any options to restore function for it. It is sad and certainly frustrating, but sometimes it is the only realistic option.
I've seen dogs that have only two legs, and they put a rolling crutch on them so they could roll around. If they could afford to have the cats legs amputated, then this would be the best solution, I'd hate to see the cat put down too.
don't kill the cat. My dad once had our brown cat put down bu the vet when it had a fight with another cat and it nose was torn, bleeding profusely and it saliva kept dripping.
I felt sad and cried the whole 3 days!!
