Have you ever received a family heirloom of any type (i.e. furniture, jewelry, coins, books, etc.)?
Yes my Great Aunt gave me a beautiful engagement ring she had received from her long dead husband. I was 16 when she gave it to me. I am 57 this month. She was 101 years old when she gave it to me. He gave it to her when she was 22. So it was 79 years old when she gave it to me. It was my birthstone and two split pears in 14K gold. She was buried with the matching wedding band. now 41 years later I have given it to my youngest daughter she had it worked on and placed it in a display case with a picture of her Great Great Aunt who gave it to me. The ring is now 120 years old! Talk about sweet!
Heirloom...? Precious....definitely. My mother's dishes...they are a beautiful set that includes both a teapot and coffee server. I don't ever remember a time they were not around....I think they were given to her by a relative as a wedding gift. We had "everyday" dishes, but these dishes were always used for Sunday meals, holiday and other celebration meals. She gave them to me the first time I hosted the family Thanksgiving meal. I treasure them so much, and have gotten many, many compliments about them over the years.
I have had them now for over 46 years.....and, if she got them as a wedding gifts they have been in the family, possibly, more than 75 years. It is amazing nothing from that set ever got broken.....a miracle really.
no not really but i wish i do someday, i want something beautiful and expensive and keep for a 100 years and then pass it on to my favorite daughter or granddaughter
