   Why do people still write checks when we now have all manner of mobile money movers?

   We still write check.  The main reason is so that we have a paper trail when the taxes for the county and other things we have to pay to them.  Having a paper trail is still a good thing.  If the banks go out or the electronics or sites go down, we still have proof of payments.  We learned the hard way in this as one year we KNEW that we paid our property taxes and the sent someone out to get it.  I mean they came to our door.  We didn't have a paper copy of the payments that we made and so we had to double pay them.

   Even with the ability to pay bills using online transfers, it doesn't work for every company or service. I use it for most things, but still write checks for others who don't accept e-payments or, as LG pointed out, when I feel I need to have that piece of paper I can get from the bank if I need proof of payment. Getting a copy of a printed check is often easier than getting a signed piece of paper showing an electronic transfer.

   Some people are simply old school and set in their ways.  Also, not everyone has or can afford the devices that have the apps necessary to employ the new methods of purchasing/making payments.  In addition, the ability to write checks is and should remain an option because it's what many people prefer as well as many businesses, which still haven't made the technical adjustments, particularly for record-keeping purposes.  It often takes time for some aspects of modernity to set in or become prevalent and/or the norm.  Besides, the more options there are, including traditional ways of doing things, the greater the freedom for more people.  It took many people a while to use computers, to write using email, or to even text with phones.

   There is always a lag between when something is introduced to when it gets widely adopted and overtakes the other (the most obvious example is VHS moving to DVD, there were many years of overlap!)
   
   There are also financial motives for some companies were changing processes could be very costly (despite being better in the long run due to improved efficiency and lower over head costs).
   
   Finally, there are always the late adopters or those that are "stuck in their ways" and very resistant to change.
