Does the Florida Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton deserve a 13-year, $325 million contract?
All of it is guaranteed and he has an opt-out after 6 seasons. The Marlins haven't spent any money the past few years and have been criticized by the MLB office for being too far under budget.
Apparently the owner of the team thinks he deserves it!
However it makes you wonder what other players who've won the World Series a few times, hit more homeruns, had more base hits, and stolen more bases, won the golden glove and so on....what do they feel they're worth? Is this the start of a new trend?
Not long ago people were complaining about Kobe Bryant's contract. However in his case the big money is essentially "retro-pay". He's won 5 titles and has led the team to the NBA finals 7 times. The Lakers signed a $3 Billion cable TV deal which would have never happened if Kobe was not on the Lakers. He is the marquee name player for his team. He sells tickets and draws viewers. I'm not a fan of baseball and I've never heard of Giancarlo Stanton until today. He isn't as well known as Derek Jeter.
Of course not. NOBODY deserves that much money for playing a game, for cryin' out loud.
This is why the rest of the world hates us.
To quote Felicia "Snoop" Pearson from The Wire, "Deserve ain't got nothing to do with it."
I think that the Marlins are paying him as a player before his prime, for future production that they forsee from him. With the market going rate for production at that level being 25 million per season, from that perspective he deserves the contract. However, it remains to be seen if the fans will support this Marlins team. The local cable company pushed the Marlins to give this contract to their star, and it will be interesting to see if the fan support is there when the Marlins are winning, along with making the playoffs on a regular basis. If so, then he deserves the contract, because Giancarlo is a huge part of all that happening. As of right now, he has not earned that money though.
I don't think they deserve it because they will need the money but they still have it because they have not spent any

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning just accepted a 6-Year, $97 Million Dollar Contract, making him the highest paid NFL player ($15.3 Million per year). Does he deserve it?

I am not sure what is more surprising about this. The fact that it was the Washington Nationals who signed Werth, instead of the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees or other obvious candidates or the length and amount of the contract.$18 million a season for a player who is past his prime in terms of...

My country Haiti is in debt, because France made them pay an independence fee of 90 million dollars over 200 years ago. Which took Haiti approximately 120 years to pay off. Due to the economic changes and inflammation, that same 90 million is worth 40 billion dollars. There is no valuable sources...
