   What was your most successful New Year's Resolution?
   
   We all have "that list" of things we didn't stick to throughout the year.  Have you had one you were actually able to keep?  Can't wait to hear!

   Once, I made a New Year's Resolution to forgive myself for any failures in achieving the goals pre-determined by all the previous New Year's Resolutions, and I succeeded.

      That sounds like a really worthy resolution, Harry!  I beat myself up every year for things I didn't 'keep,' but I do feel there's a benefit in having an awareness of what I'd like to change about myself!

   Hello Marcey!   hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that the coming year is everything you hope it to be.  A few years ago just after the stroke of midnight I resolved to never make a single New Year's resolution  ever again.  Saves on disappointment and feeling like a big failure.....I don't need to beat up on myself.
   If something comes up throughout the year that I decide to do, I go for it.  But at least I'm not constantly paranoid that I'm going to break a resolution....AGAIN!

      Good point, fpherj48!  I like your thought about tackling a 'resolution' at any time it comes to mind.  I'd love to hear what some people have been successful in doing after they write their annual list!

   My most successful New Year's resolution was "I am going to bike 37 miles to one of the best beaches in Canada.". There is a provincial park with 3 large beaches and they are all great beaches. To train I had to bike to provincial parks and beaches at least once a week. Since I like provincial parks and I like beaches I looked forward to it. It was really easy to get myself to bike to a beach. I started with the closest beach and worked my way up to beaches that are farther away.
   
   All that biking caused me to become leaner and more muscular. I was in the best shape of my life. It is easy to stick with New Year's resolutions if you think of something you actually want to do.

      Wow, Mike - I am tired just thinking of this!  I like the idea of setting a larger physical goal and training for it, rather than setting a goal of so many minutes a day or whatever . Those goals never work for me. Congrats on such a great feat!

   I once asked myself how come I so seldom achieved the goals I set. Then I thought, "Well, it's not like I'm not doing anything, so what is it I'm doing instead?" And I made a list. And they were awesome things. Then I realized that the things I was actually doing reflected my real priorities in life, and the goals I was setting reflected what I thought would please or impress other people.
   
   Now I set goals as the need for them comes up to make my life easier, more fun, more loving, etc. My current goal? Get a job that's not too demanding and leaves me time to finish writing my book.
