What was your first job ever?

Was it a paper route? Mowing a neighbor's lawn? Fast food worker?

My first job/work experience was at a pet store called Passion for Pets when I was in year 10.

I must admit it was an awesome job just working with all the animals but didnt get to stay there as it was Work Experience.

I was an umpire for my local Little League when I was 15. I was paid $10 a game to be verbally abused by snotty 8 year olds and their psycho parents (one of whom actually threatened to kick my "punk ass" in the parking lot after I called his kid "out" at home plate). It sucked! I stuck it out for the whole summer but when they called the next year to ask if I wanted to do it again I said "hell no!"

I worked on a farm here in the north of England when I was a 10 year old. Loved it. Helped with the potatoe harvest, went out on tractors and trailers before health and safety measures stopped all that sort of thing. Got to know old man Fletcher the herdsman, pipe in mouth all day, few words, the grubbiest hat I've ever seen. Bagging up spuds was heavy work but everyone seemed to be so helpful and friendly. Got paid my first ever wage by Farmer Glasford, red faced, stressed out kind of man with a big Mercedes and a cigarette in his hand.

My first steady job at age eight, which was forty one years ago was cleaning up the mechanics shop everyday after school. Linders BMW shop in New Canaan, CT was a great and exciting place. Was paid $2 for completing whatever needed to be done which usually took an hour or so. Think a spent the money everyday on pinball and candy. Fun times.
