Would you consume pills everyday or live a shorter life?
If you had the choice of taking pills everyday for the rest of your life, or take nothing and live a few years less....what would you do?
To each their own. For me, it depends on the side effects. If the pills caused me any significant discomfort, they wouldn't be worth the extra time they allowed. But if they were relatively pain-free, I wouldn't mind taking them.
I have to consider my family. I wouldn't want to put them through any unnecessary pain, just because I didn't want to take some pills. That would be selfish in my opinion.
I do take pills everyday and have for many years. I am diebetic and twice survived cancer. I do not have a death wish and want to live as long as I can and be in some way productive.
I take blood pressure medication every day, and have done for the past three years. The likelihood that I will ever stop taking them is low. The likelihood that I would die sooner if I did stop taking them is high. The answer seems pretty simple to me: take the pills.
It really comes down to what the side effects are for taking the pills.
Clearly I'd know not taking them could lead to an earlier death. However quality of life is far more important to me than the number of years. I've known people who lived long sickly years.

I wouldn't take pills just to "live". They'd have to provide me a decent quality of life. There is more to life than simply breathing.
Not sure why one paragraph duplicated! It looked like the site was going to "time out" when I initially submitted my comment.
I would take the pills: medicine is moving on quickly and there are improvements all the time. Having said that I would stop taking them if there were any ill affects that were worse for my family to deal with than my death, for example mental illness. I see life as a gift and I will cherish that gift, but my family will always come first for better or worse. I would never try to extend my life at the hand of my loved ones suffering. That would be very selfish.
