I think football (soccer here in the US) is the most popular sport worldwide.

My favorites are football (US style), basketball, and golf.

Cycling is the one recreational sport that is done worldwide.  In China it's huge, in Europe it's huge... you have probably ridden a bicycle at least once in your life.  Everyone seems to have participated at some time in their lives.

Ironically, Americans have dominated the Tour De France, yet cycling is not big in the US.

I'm one of the least athletic people around and am not much a sports watcher either, but based on my travels, I'm going to go with football (soccer) as being the most popular. When I was in England and Ireland, people were screaming in the bars over some game, and I have friends from Israel, Greece and Brazil, who are addicted. It seems like America is one of the few countries where soccer isn't as big a deal, but in most of the other places I've been to, it's an event.

If you asked "Favorite", I would have said football.

Since you spelled it "favourite", I guess it will be soccer first, then rugby and then there is this funny game you guys refer to as cricket. :-)

Personally, I don't play with balls, so I am a cyclist.

Futbol or Soccer here in the US, I think the is the dominating sport in the world,

Then I would have to say Gymanastics (every country participates in the Olymipics)

    Then it would be Baseball

Worldwide, probably football (proper football, not the American stop-start rugby-type game), and then cricket.

There are no sports on the planet that come anywhere near football (soccer) in terms of participation, viewing, in terms of money spent, sponsorship deals..... it is the biggest sport in the world, has been for donkeys years, and will be for donkeys years. And it is also my favourite sport.

Only the biggest sport in the UK Ryan, deff not in the World, jeeez even George Best and Pele couldn't get America interested in soccer. Baseball way surpasses soccer over there and other parts like India and Australia Cricket is their God.

But like you footie is my fav sport smile

Every couple of years someone gets it in their head that soccer simply 'must' become popular in the US, but it never works out. Kinda like the metric system, only even less accepted.

Even in the US, there is a very large demographic courted aggressively by everyone from advertisers to politicians for several good reasons. They're enthusiastic, active, and extremely vocal.

I give you the Soccer Moms!
