How do you be a good mom, work, and do anything else without feeling exhausted?

I'm a first time mom.  My son is 5 months old and since having him I haven't had time to do any of the "for me" things I used to do...write, work out, bake.  I can barely keep up with the bare minimum.  Does this get easier and what are some tips?  I don't want to just survive--I want to thrive!

5 months old is still early to have your own free time. I waited until mine was almost 1 year old when he can walk on his own. Put him in a pen ( cage ) then I can do my own blogging with ease

Oh hun, 5 months in is early! Little man was in you for 9-10 months, you are going to have at least that long before fully adjusting to the life of parenting! Yes, it gets a lot easier!! You need to prioritize. Include your "me" things into the schedule just like you would the dishes or laundry. If you have a partner leave your son with him/her while you get out of the house for a couple of hours. Do not try to accomplish everything. Make yourself a daily, weekly, and monthly chore list until you get into a good routine and do not feel obligated to get everything done. Invest in a good baby carrier so you can wear him around the house to get more things done.
Give it time and a routine and things will get easier!

I know it may seem impossible now, but it will get easier. hang in there. Sounds like you are doing your best in this very intense period of becoming a parent, and that's what counts.
You'll survive, and the housework will get done... sooner or later.
Your son and your health have priority now.
For the exercise, try googling "excercise with baby", or "mommy and me workout", you'll find some fun things you can do for yourself without feeling you are neglecting him.

Hello Jenna , congratulations and many blessings to all of you; so good to see you back...
Obviously you won't get much  help of first hand from me; a little I remember my wife was " handling" first year with each of our babies was taking care of herself, any given chance to relax and get rest in-between...
To maintain your physical, mental and spiritual soundness is priority #1, the other things won't run too far, you'll catch them down the road... The benefit you'll notice in years to come : My wife is extremely healthy and that's what we need the most in the " afternoon'' stage of earthly journey home...

As a mother to 3 kids under the age of 2 (crazy I know!!! A 2 year old and 1 year old twins), I feel your pain! I truly feel that what has been best for me is to schedule my time. Literally! I use a calendar and write in 1-2 things I am going to do for myself each day. I continue to struggle with this and I, like you, want to thrive! When the kids lay down for a nap, I have to force myself to do the things I used to enjoy because many times, I am  exhausted. Getting into a routine was really hard, but has definitely made things easier and gives me the "me time" needed to feel a little bit like my old self again. Good luck smile
