   My 6 year old  Jack Russell  Terrier is urinating on my 4 month old puppy constantly, why?

   Hi Namowdooga,
   Excellent question. Here's an indirect answer. We humans have an old saying: Seeing is believing.
   Doggies have a different saying: Smelling is believing. A large proportion of a dog's brain is devoted to processing various odors.
   Your JR is scent-marking the puppy, as a message to other dogs: This puppy is part of MY wolf pack. Oddly enough, this strange behavior is really about affection.
   If an adult human did the same thing to a human child, the meaning would be entirely different! Sometimes we inappropriately anthropomorphize canine conduct. That said, if this behavior is happening indoors, it would be a good idea to reinforce basic house training.

      Thanks, Larry...this behavior occurs outside, the JRT also urinated on my foot during a daily walk...just walked over and urinated on me.  The puppy is new to the household, it's  like  the JRT knows what he's doing.

   This happens most often when both dogs are not neutered. The dominant male is attempting to assert his power over the other submissive dog. If your 6 year old JRT is not neutered, he may feel the younger dog is challenging his territory and is marking him.
   Does your older dog know the "leave it" command? As soon as he hikes his leg, tell him to "leave it" and he will stop to look at you.
   Stop this behavior whenever you see it.
