Is $15.00 per hour minimum for fast food workers too much?
The chain restaurants are protesting the newer $15.00 an hour pay raise in New York. it will gradually raise to that by 2018. The owners claim that only national chains have to abide the higher wages and not other restaurants. Is this fair to the owners and too much to pay ?
I think it's starting to become a fair salary. The current salary of about $9 is preposterous.
For New York? Absolutely not, even 15 is not that much there. Business owners will whine no matter what, but what I think is more unfair is having to have tax dollars subsidize working people who should make a living wage. When you work full time and still have to be on public assistance to pay for your basic needs like food, there is a problem - and that problem is the real welfare queens in this country who are the ones who routinely put record profits ahead of people. Those people I might add, whose labor is what built said profits in the first place.
If $15/hour is what it takes to put a roof over one's head, and keep food on the table, it's fair. After all, those chain restaurants who are doing the most squawking are raking in millions in profits. Shouldn't the workers share in the profits their company makes, by earning a living wage? Why should that money only go to corporate bonuses and shareholder dividends, and not the lowest paid workers?
I do believe those restaurants that are raking in huge profits should share those profits with the workers, but I also believe that the workers should earn their keep - meaning their are some that WILL NOT go back to school to even learn a trade so they can earn more. Some want to earn more without having to to do anything for the increase in pay.
Yes, a $15.00 per hour wage for unskilled labor is too much.

Should fast food workers be paid $12 to $15 per hour?Thousands of fast food workers are threatening to stage a "walkout" demanding the be paid a "living wage" of approximately $31,000 annually. Pouring a cup of coffee and putting a food order in a paper bag certainly is low on...

The CEO of Gravity, a credit card processing service, cuts his personal pay from a million dollars a year to give the minimum wage earners in his company $70,000 a year. Once again there is a call to raise the minimum wage.Now....common sense and a little education will tell you that when you raise the minimum wage, prices go up to compensate. Also, you stand the chance of having a nice little spike in unemployment from the smaller businesses that can no longer...
