   100 years is a lot to cover in one paragraph, Grace. Have you considered writing a hub about this?
   
   Simply put, I would say that 100 years ago, the rhythm and beat of the melanin inclined was what it had always been to the original Earthlings- an expression of connection to this lovely planet. From a more 'main stream' perspective, it was a guilty pleasure of 'white folk.'
   
   The styles of Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley among others brought African-American music to the main stream, but terrified the establishment for a variety of reasons. Regardless, this new integrated style of music traveled to England and returned in the form of The Beatles.  This, along with other factors, led to a counter-culture revolution bringing forth forced integration.
   
   Over the latter part of the last century, the music industry attempted to correct the perceived problem by promoting styles of music which glorified violence and criminal behavior, but the just and the wise of all races avoided such trappings.
   
   With the amazing work of Michael Jackson, and many he assisted behind the scenes, African-American music is now an integral part of American lifestyle written, performed, and produced by Americans who happen to be of African descent.
   
   What's with all the race questions these days? Can't we all just get along?

   I took one music class, as an elective during my first year in college and it talk a great deal about music culture. All modern music style, whether it is pop, rock or jazz is decendent from African American music.
   
   
   Popular culture, is a product of the public desire and the producer, the producers can create all the type of music they like, but it won't become popular, unless people like it. During the 1950s, African Americans bring about their own music style to US, which are the first jazz and rock music. It is still some what different from today's, but it was really popular, amount teenagers. in Southern State, it become a form of panic for parents and politicians, because well...the South is dominate by white supremacist, so, they are not happy about their kids, listen to what they would refer to as "nigger music", if you are caught listening to it in school, you can get in a lot of trouble, even expel. Even so, kids listen to it, a lot of kids who have white supremacist parents, hide their records maybe under their bed or share record with their friends to listen to in the park. Because this type of music was popular amount the teenagers, once this generation grew up, rock, pop and jazz music went mainstream, with these kids as the next generation of rock, pop and jazz musicians, The first white rock star, is nobody else, other then Elvis, before Elvis, all rock stars, are black.
   
   The original western style music, today, have all be replace by African style music, with the exception of Country music, which remain popular, till date.
