How do you get traffic to your blog/website? Add to my list below.
Can you add to my list?
1.Optimize your work for search engines by using relevant keywords .
2.Keep posts short and use graphics to keep attention of your readers. Write in a way to make it interesting to your readers, rather than just a sales pitch.
3.Develop your own style - make it unique so you stand out from the crowded digital world.
4.Read about it in several digi-mags eg:writerslife.org
One can never know it all, so keep on learning.
One word: Twitter
Nothing else I have ever tried has brought me anything close to the amount of traffic I get from twitter. It takes quite a bit of effort in the beginning mind you but now it literally runs itself and I just pop in to check on it from time to time.
Of course learning about SEO and keywords is a great idea too.
You do mean the 170 character tweet, don't you Kirsty? Sounds like you have a large following there. Thanks for sharing with us. We could all do with some more traffic.
I have somewhere between 800 and 900 followers (its not a static number because people follow/unfollow regularly) which is not an awful lot really. Its about the quality of your followers - the comment box is too small to explain. i might write a hub
I know some have 4.5.7k followers. For anyone to maintain that no of followers they would have ti automated with custom software surely. Or they spend so much time on it, they would not have much time to write; Yes, No?
I noticed that those accounts with tens of thousands of followers don't actually tweet that much. It's more the quality of tweets. I.E. genuinely helpful info etc. Probably, they have the right kind of followers too.
Lots of these accounts with unrealistic amounts of followers but no tweets are accounts that people have built up then sold. My twitter posting is fully automated and there are things you can use to build followers, its not the way to go though
Thank you Kirsty for your latest posting. It explains a great deal. Surely you do not use it to get traffic just for your HP writings. Probably some other writings as well. I reckon such a large committment to tweeting would take much time or money
I used to write on a few different revenue share sites so thats how i got into it, i also have two blogs. I do have a paid subscription for auto posting but i will probably cancel it soon since i dont write much now Will likely go back to free one
I am hoping to get a list of ways to attract traffic. Then we could all share each other's practical tips.
I believe that if I share what I know with others, I can learn something new. That maxim, has served me well over many, many years.
I'm not sure about Twitter. Despite what everyone says, I get practically NOTHZING from it.
My top sources:
1) SU. I know you're not supposed to ... but I balance it by always adding a lot of other pages, leaving comments, sharing etc
2) Search engines. The Yoast plugin / Google Webmaster / Google Adwords help a lot. (Adword to check whether your focus is correct
3) Facebook. Posting in the right comments and threads
Thank you Cedric Yong for sharing with us. I do hope you will find something useful to you here as well. The idea is to share a pool of knowledge. I did not know any of yours, so I shall be trying them.
StumbleUpon will let you away with a little bit of self promotion as long as you balance it out well enough with other activity. I used to get a lot of traffic from them but I gave it up for reasons I cant remember
Yes, balance is very important in SU. As long as you have other submissions which are well received, it will tolerate you submitting your own site to an extent.
