Will the wall along the Mexican border prevent immigrants from entering our nation?
Building a wall will be very costly and thus far the Mexican government refuses to pay for that wall. The only other way to pay for this wall is with our own hard earned tax dollars. So this question becomes a very important question.
No. It's a stupid, costly idea that won't prevent a single immigrant from entering the US.
People who want to come here will find a way, because the situations they're coming from don't offer them a life any American would be willing to live. A wall is something that people will find a way to go over, under, or around.
Yes, it will. The question has always been not whether it will work or not but if our government are committed to enforcing our laws. There is no point building a wall, if we allow people to come here illegally as a policy. Unfortunately, this issue has been politicized and distorted so that people are not thinking straight. Every other nation has a border and they enforce it. Let me put it simply, by asking you this question. Would you allow strangers to walk into your house uninvited? If the answer is no, why would you allow people to come here illegally? They need to follow our immigration laws and apply like everyone else and that is the only way we can track who is here and also prevent diseases from invading our nation. We spend a lot of money over the years to reduce epidemics with vaccines... why do we allow anyone who may carry communicable diseases to just walk in? It is just common sense.
What do we do about those who dig tunnels under the wall? Mexico obviously does not enforce immigration laws at it's southern border. Many of the illegal immigrants come from Latin America.
That is the job for border patrol just like for every other countries in the world. Why does people think a simple fence is ineffective is beyond me?
There will always be someone trying to sneak in. So what? It should not be a reason for us to quit
US defense contractor Raytheon has built 2 walls for Saudi Arabia, one of around a thousand miles around Yemen, the other on the Iraqi border. A series of ditches, barbed wired, another ditch dug to prevent cars crashing through, another fence. Thousands of dollars per mile but all done for less than a few billion.
We spend more than that on illegal immigrants' children's births on Medicaid per year, school lunches and educational costs for the ones brought here as children or anchor babies, more than that on illegal immigrants in federal prison.
We don't have to build the Great Wall of China. Just something like what US defense contractors are already building for Muslim nations to keep out terrorists from nations whose dictators Clinton took out and left chaos behind.
Walls are effective, which is why they have been built for literally 10,000 years. A wall that is manned and properly supported by border patrol agents will prevent 99% of illegal immigrants from entering the country.
What people don't understand is that a wall by itself is simply an obstacle. People will eventually figure out how to get over or under it. But, when the wall is supported by troops or officers who actually patrol it, it will be very effective.
I would much rather have a big ugly wall than a "Virtual Fence" of predator drones buzzing overhead.
