How do I stop condensation from getting inside the drawers of my big metal tool box?

I have a non insulated metal garage & I have trouble with condensation getting inside of the drawers of my large metal tool box. What can I do to stop this from happening and rusting all of my metal tools? I have read that putting charcoal or chalk inside of each of the metal drawers helps this problem, and is there any truth to that? This is a big problem for me, and I need your help.

Sorry to say, but there are no easy solutions here. There are a few technical solutions.
    1. insulate the garage and install a small heater
    2. keep the inside of the metal tool box dry, like suggested, with a moisture absorber. But since the metal tool box is not air tight, there will always leak new fresh, moistened air inside you metal box. If you want to use that solution, make your tool box airtight with rubber strips.

I could add many other, very exotic solutions to your problem, but I'm not sure that will help you out.

    Good luck!

I'll look into the idea of rubber strips. Also please go ahead and add your many other very exotic solutions to this problem. I would be very interested in hearing all of them, and I'm sure other people would too.

There's limited space left to comment.
You can install a small electrical heater together with a powerful computer fan (not the kind you find in a laptop) and make it blow through the tool box.

Now that's an interesting idea for down the road.

If there is no condensation on the outside of the tool box the reason this is happening is because the air trapped inside the drawers is more humid than the air of the garage. Try leaving the drawers all open an inch or two thus allowing the moisture in the drawers to dissipate into the ambient air of the garage.

If this works it will cost you nothing so no harm in trying it.

This is a good idea, but I need to keep the tool box locked up when I'm not around.

Chances are if you leave it open whenever you are around it will still work. Maybe put it in a room you can lock. Try it and let me know if it works.
