Have you ever said something you didn't mean? Did you wonder how someone may have taken
what was said or written?
If I said it I meant it unless it was a joke or an attempt at humor.
We're all guilty of being "tasteless", "immature", or "insensitive" at times. None of us are perfect or come with an edit button.
Nevertheless you have no control over how someone perceives what you said or your intention. A mature person attempts to anticipate what could be construed before opening their mouth.
I agree with you and, yes, we are human-not perfect. As long as the other doesnt allow themselves to be biased into an act of mob violence. That may be an extreme example but if people's vulnerabilities or insecurities get hotly inflamed? Anything is possible.
I think we all experience this situation in our lives. When we are upset or agitated on someone or something we might say things to people that we didn't mean and will end up regretting it. The best thing that can be done is a heartfelt apology and not repeating it. A person who loves us will understand that it was not said from the heart and he/she will forgive.
The way I like to mix around my word groups I often intend to be misunderstood in order to provoke thought. Check it out; "Honey you look great in that dress" is really different than "That dress looks great on you". So in order not to say something that I do not mean, I use the former because my honey always looks great to me regardless of the dress.
Most my writing is called a sermon. It drives some folks crazy because they can only think of the religious type of sermon. And I mean the other kind of sermon - like a lecture on a meaning. So I intentionally use the word and people think it means what they will.
I am working on a piece about "enabling", everyone I have talked to about it say it is a bad thing and it is not, so people will have to look to see what i really mean.
One of my fun ones these days is when you thank a store clerk for serving you which is their job, they respond "no problem". Now that is certainly not what they mean.
Oops, sorry I did not mean to go on so long ;-)
I usually say, sweetheart, you really make that dress look good. I don't like creating controversy, especially with my significant other.
Your words and phrasing mystifies me and flips things on its head for me. Look foward to your thoughts and meanderings. Cheers eric.
Greg that is very good. It shall be added to my repertoire.
If someone does not love words they should try thinking without them.
