   In little over a decade, he created 2,100 works of art. Most of them were 860 oil paintings, painted in the last two years of his life. He died in France in 1890.

   Impoverished, and mentally unstable, Vincent Van Gogh, still his  career unquestionably famous. Never to see his own extreme success of his art
   
   As an artist is not my idea of a healthy, happy life. The starving artist image must effect his work and balance as he die at age 37. During my own art career has lasted longer the Vincent lifespan. His life and art works do not impress me like that of Michelangelo or Dali. People now romanticize these dark times in Van Gogh’s life  .This type of artist’s pain is what created the stereotype of the starving artist, with these negative ideas seem to be so worldwide influential.
   
   I questions, “What are the psychological and cultural reasons of why people don’t believe that art can be a successful career?” A glaringly hypocritical of importance as artist are lowest paid profession.
   
   
   
   and, “Why is romanticizing the starving artist not considered to be harmful?”If people do actually believe in art careers, where is this negativity coming from?

      There was a glitch when I posted my reply.  I will do the best I can to remember what I wrote. : D
      
      Artists are not the only ones who suffer, but we know about Van Gogh because his brother saved his letters. A well-known author wrote a wonderful book about his life. It was made into a movie. Yes. It was romanticized.
      
      Historically, artists lived well during the Enlightenment or Renaissance period. They were revered and supported for being artists. We need to support the artist today as well because artists dream and create new civilizations for the betterment of mankind.  Art lifts the human spirit and helps society do better overall.
      
      I agree. Artists do not need to suffer. They can succeed and I know many who have. The key to being a successful artist is having competence. That requires study, practice, practice and more practice.

         Interesting profile, my next move is into film making. It would be exciting to films on great artist lifestyles.
