Now Trump is considering pardoning Muhammad Ali postumously...
Would a racist (claimed by many never Trumpers) do that? And Jack Johnson...?

Hadn't heard about Ali.  What is the pardon for - running from the draft?

Don't know that I would do that.  Seems a rather bad precedent - if you're rich and famous you don't have the duty of fighting for the country.  If he were alive it might make sense, but posthumous can only be a gesture, and one that says the wrong thing.  IMO.

He was a conscientious objector as I recall and was dead set against the war, not your average rich guy trying to avoid the draft.

Conscientious objectors do not run from the country rather than serve it.  There are alternative ways to serve besides carrying a gun.

My cousin was a CO in the Vietnam era.  He joined as a medic, saving lives rather than taking them.  He also died doing it - one of tens of thousands that gave their life for others rather than running away.

I hear you, its a tough call.
I feel he probably is taking the rest of Ali’s life into consideration.
He did a lot of charity work in his later years even with his medical condition...
A pardon is not just for the original crime but for his redemption.

See, I disagree with that concept, too.  Sterilizing people's lives to fit into what we now think of as "right" is not the way to go.  Washington owned slaves; accept that he wasn't perfect by modern standards while recognizing his accomplishments.  Same for Robert E Lee, Columbus and many others - they all had faults, and sometimes faults that we think were pretty big.

Remember those faults and use them as a guidepost (of what NOT to do), but don't hide them away, forgotten and invisible.

        But this is redundant.

"We appreciate President Trump's sentiment, but a pardon is unnecessary. The U.S. Supreme Court overturned the conviction of Muhammad Ali in a unanimous decision in 1971. There is no conviction from which a pardon is needed," said Ron Tweel, a lawyer for the boxer's estate and his widow, Lonnie”

It is this kind of stuff that Trump cannot win in your eyes... which is fine by the rest of us.
Mean while, our portfolio is growing... Black and hispanic unemployment is at all time low... (did you hear that reported on CNN or NYT?)  220K jobs added last month...
            North Korea is talking finally...
and Jerusalem is the capital of Israel...

Next, the wall is being built as we speak.

Jack thinks that we will magically love Trump if our wallets get fatter because apparently that's his yardstick of a great President. Some of us also have other measures of greatness, thoigh, and none of them are displayed by Trump.

Oh, and yes we heard about the employment rates on every one of our liberal fake news channels. big_smile

Jack, you can't see what Spanky is trying to do with these pardons?  So far I have no problem with him pardoning those who truly deserve it, but when he speaks of pardoning himself he sounds like a tyrant or petty dictator. Is he trying make people think he's not a racist now?  I mean damn, any child can see through his antics.

So all of you anti-Trump ers...
                  Pay attention.
                  Here is the simple 411-

He is a successful businessman and TV personality.
                  He has tons of $$$
He is 70 years old and have grand kids...

Most people find themselves in that scenario would retire and play golf and spoil their grandkids and travel...

Instead, Trump said he is running for President - to MAGA.

Why don’t you give him a benefit of doubt and wait and see...

He is working harder now than ever.

He didn’t have to put himself and his family in the bulls eye attacked at every turn by the media, called names, and smeared...

You have to ask yourself a simple question -  why else would he be doing this?

                  The silence is deafening.

You didn't give it time for the silence to be even close to deafening, Jack. Spanky ran for POTUS because  he was in Putin's pocket. I really don't believe he wanted to win and was obviously ill prepared if he did.  I think he was stunned by the victory and started lying on day one of his term, never ceasing to do so to date. Why is he kissing Putie's butt, trying get the G7 to let Putie back in despit his bad character and rule breaking? Why did he not won't to levy the sanctions voted on by practically the entire congressional membership?  Why is he treating our closest allies like crap and kissing up to Russia, Jack?

Let's see how deafening the silence really gets now, Jack.  I'll be waiting for your concise repartee.  tongue

(More than likely a good while, if Indeed a real answer is forthcoming)

I live in the middle of a religious rightwing part of the country, Jack. I've observed all sorts of racists in my life and I feel very qualified to recognize one when I see one.  Why don't you come on down here and I'll see if I can get you into a Klan meeting.  I won't attend, but when they find out you're a Spanky fan you'll get an instant membership.  tongue

How many KKK members do you think are there in the whole USA?

“Nationwide, there are still an estimated 3,000 Klan members and unaffiliated people who "identify with Klan ideology," according to the ADL. Membership, though, remains spread across dozens of groups. The largest Klans reportedly don't have more than 50 to 100 active members, and most have fewer than 25.”

I doubt you have met any...
They are a small fringe group.
It is you and your fellow Trump haters that keep pushing the Russian conn3ction and the Klan connection.
It is made up and you know it.
The Mueller investigation is a cover to protect Hillary and Obama...

The best part, since the election of Trump, is the revelation of the deep state and how both party, GOP and the Democratic leaderships, are in bed together going against the wishes of the American voters.
Look at who they are, how they voted and why the country is in such dire straits... with huge debt, and mounting regulations and disaster healthcare and faulting infrastruxture and a bankrupt Social security...
No matter which party is in charge, the debt keeps rising...the spending continues, the problems get worse...and no one is taking responsibility.
That is the failure of a big government mentality, the statism that must be defeated and the common sense return to DC. Where is the party of Lincoln, Kennedy and Reagan? They would be shunned by the party bosses of today.
We need to drain the swamp...elect new members, and start over...
