Update Frenzy Time

   I've been busily updating one article a day to get the purdy 2019 date. As we all know, updating an article is risky business around here; but there is no help for it if one wants the current year date. So far, so good. Anyone else rolling the dice?

      I don't get what you're saying.  I wasn't aware that publication date changes when you update or why it would even matter if it did.

         The update date changes and Google shows it right at the beginning of the article description.

   I've been going over my articles for the past six weeks looking for typos, errors, and the need for updates. I must have done more than a hundred and I've found irritating little mistakes in all but about 10. It must be driving the editors wrangy because they have to review any changes, but so far all have passed muster. Updating doesn't change the date that accompanies the copyright notice.

   Updates are always beneficial per HP guidelines and the niche editors encourage it. I constantly update my articles, and like Rupert, I find little irritating mistakes but feel good about correcting them.

   I saw the term "fresh content" mentioned once upon a time in the context of articles ranking better in SERPs. Not sure whether these were Google's words? Does a more recent date partially satisfy the spiders?

      I've been updating 3 articles a day on my website (link NOT on profile) in addition to my HP updates.  Most of the population always wants "new", thus the ripple effect: reader:advertiser:Google:HP:us. I've been finding it kind of fun.

      I have heard something similar. I am not quite sure how Google tracks freshness but from what I saw this is something they consider.
      
      That being said I only wonder how much. Sometimes I have seen results at the top of search that are years older but probally have more authority.
      
      Either way I update my hubs when I feel necessarily. I recently updated a game guide I wrote because the game was updated and some things changed. I figure this would help the reader more at least. I also want to know I am providing the most help I can from what I know.

         I think updating could drive writers crazy if they tried to do it for every article every year.  There are people here with thousands of articles...they wouldn't have time to sleep!  I'm with you... update as needed.  Usually I look at the articles that are not doing well or are older and deal with those.

   Absolutely, yes! Already started updating. I've always updated regularly so that all articles are never more than 2 to 3 months old (in the eyes of Google and readers). For example, I will be updating articles last updated in November 2018 during the month of January 2019. It works for me.

   Happy Hot Dog! All articles updated! My website is going to take considerably longer, but it's nice therapy. Mostly I just do SEO enhancements; it's amazing what I've learned in that regard during the last year. Traffic and straight AdSense doing good at both there and here. 2019 is definitely showing promise.
