I started to receive a lot of spam recently from my question site and a friend suggested me that is because I have my email address listed in plain text on my contact page, and that I should turn it into an image instead. How do I turn my email address into an image?

You could take a Print screen/ screen shot of your name, go into paint and paste it, and crop your name out.

What I would do is to simply replace the @ with the words 'at'
    this fools most spam software

when you say "contact page" do you mean your profile page? If so, there is an email contact icon already there for your readers to use. It goes through hubpages to your reg. email - no spam.

If you wanted your reg. email available for readers for other reasons, you can use an html hyperlink in your profile. either text or pic, but beware, bot crawlers can still get your address from the html code in the hyperlink.  Unless you use the @ for the "@" symbol. ie.. jane@gmail.com

or you just leave as non-clickable display text as previously suggested by using the word "at" ie. jane at gmail.com

yeah never put your email address on your web site as people have bots that search sites for just that very thing and add it to a mailing list of yup spam. Easy way to go about fixing that is to set it up like name @ domain.com   with the extra space the bot will pick it up wrong and add the space and thus you will not get the auto emails. However since your email account now is already on this list it is next to impossible to get off of it. Better off creating a new email account for that domain.
