Could We Opinion Writers Get a Better Name Than "Soapboxie?"

I'm sure it was thought of in a crunch and good job, it has held up to now. But it is an endless source of denigration from the Web, and it doesn't sound serious. "Come on, the name of the site is Soapboxie!" We editorial writers put a lot of research and effort into our work, and we are very serious. Can Hubpages have a friendly contest for a new name? Thanks HP!

I never liked the name either, but after I googled what it means, I thought it was genius.
"A soapbox is a raised platform on which one stands to make an impromptu speech, often about a political subject. The term originates from the days when speakers would elevate themselves by standing on a wooden crate originally used for shipment of soap or other dry goods from a manufacturer to a retail store"

I get why they came up with the name but I agree, I think it's off-putting in the SERPs. It sounds like it could be a cute DIY site, not a political/opinion niche.

I agree, the first time my article was moved to the site, I got confused.
Can you try to suggest a better name?
After raphlopez raised the issue, I was trying to come up with a better suggestion, but it seems I am not that creative.

I don't like the names of many of the niche sites.  Maybe its because I'm British, but they don't mean anything to me.  If all I could see was the name of the site, I would not bother exploring them further.  They sound like someone trying to be too clever.  What's wrong with simple and descriptive?

Just as all the good topics are over-saturated, so have all the good domain names been taken.

^ This is true. And considering that our domains have been around for as long as they have, changing them now may greatly impact traffic.

Do you think there's any point promoting the niche site "brands" Samantha? (while we have you here smile ) There's very little activity on their social media accounts. Also I've seen a discussion on an academic forum about Owlcation and no one had heard about it and they noted that there was no peer review of articles.

We're experimenting with a few ideas. It's a challenge to create a solid strategy for about 30 different social media channels, but we hear you!

It's good to read that this matter is at least being considered. I have just over a handful of pieces for HubPages, and they are all on Soapboxie. I'm debating ramping up the production to at least a few a month. I had very good numbers with a political ppc site that was heavily reliant on FB for views, It had followers in the millions. But, I think changes in FB policy brought that site to a halt basically. I'm all for any ramping up of social media presence for Soapboxie, to the extent it is possible.

Too bad that 2-hr referral tracker thingy got discontinued. Resurrect it and make it for 24 hours and I might make use of it. smile

Mmm..I didn't see that, and am kicking around some ideas for Amazon referrals. Ebay just recently went to 24 hours from 7 day and people are not liking that at all. Of course, with Ebay's auction format, the 7 days made sense.
