Copyright Infringement

   There are no new topics under the sun, so they say. Well, these days people have become creative in stealing other writers' content without acknowledging them.
   
   I came up with a title for my article about 4 years ago. I don't remember whether my editor made some changes to my title. There wasn't any online site that had that title in their site.
   
   Now, a site has the same title as mine. The site published an article that closely resembles mine. The titles are the same. The format are the same but they kind of twisted the subheadings. Actually, they even included 14 things that I listed in my article but with some twisting.
   
   My question: Can I file copyright infringement with the site for using the same title as mine and copying the format of my article but with some twists?

      No. Titles aren't copyright. Neither are lists.
      
      To see if they have plagiarized the article itself, you could to put both articles into Copyscape and see what comes up.

   I went through the same thing a few months ago. After trying everything possible I gave up. Now I get half of the views I used to get from that article. I hope everything works good for you.
   Before Hubpages, I was searching for a writing job on a few freelancing websites. My account was entirely new. After a really long time, I was hired by someone. This person posted the job details, got my contact info from me and then she gave me some work personally through email. That was the first time I was trying something as such and I went with the flow. She gave me links of some articles that I was supposed to rewrite and she would pay me for if those articles were not identified as copied on a plagiarism checker. Although I had no idea about this whole copyright thing, it just sounded like cheating to me and there was nothing exciting about it. As soon as I heard about this, I told her I would not continue this.
   Later I understood how fraud she was. She didn't pay the freelancing site, she made copies of articles written by someone else, she was promising to pay her writers a few cents for 200 words or something.

      I am sorry to hear that. It is unfair working for an individual who uses cheating methods to get what they wanted. It is a good thing you knew it before you started.
      
      Last year, some of my articles were also copied on their whole on Nigerian websites. I contacted their hosting sites and the articles were taken down while others didn't respond. In time, my articles ceased to exist on their site only for other Nigerian sites to engage in copy infringement at the beginning of this year.
      
      I will try once and give up. Only three relationship articles that earn high views are vulnerable to this illegal action. Now, I receive half the views.
