I only ask because I'm thinking about expanding the content of my articles to include reviews of music videos. I just need to know, do music video reviews do well on this site? I can't imagine they do, but it's not a big deal as I plan to do it anyways. I was just curious to know if they do a lot of traffic on here or not.
I haven't done, specifically, a music video review, but my experience is that articles on the entertainment industry don't do well or, in rare cases, do modestly well. Probably too much competition and also they're not evergreen generally.
Trust me, I know exactly what you mean. In spite the stats my profile says, I never really generated that great of traffic on this site writing about films honestly. Yeah, I do better than most writers on here that write about movies, but that's usually because most of them usually only write like maybe ten or twenty movie reviews, and then give up and not write anything else. I guess I'm just stubborn. Heck, my own family doesn't even support my writing, as they see it as a waste of time. Sad huh? However, I mostly do this for my own sanity anyways because it's something I love doing. And it's free too work on here, so it's not like I lose anything other than my own time. But yeah, I was just mostly asking because I'm trying to gain a general idea of what I'm up against as far as writing about music videos.
I suppose it depends on your definition of "doing well."
I've written a s**t load of music articles here (hell, they're pretty much all I do)... depending on how well known the band/artist I'm writing about is, a piece might get a few thousand views over time, or it'll completely crap out at less than 50.
So essentially, I write stuff, throw it at the walls, and if it sticks, great. If it doesn't, I write another one and try again. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Obviously it's not the most profitable way to do things around here, but they always tell you to "write what you know" and it's what I know/like to write about.
I have a few hubs on Spinditty related to music, and I include music videos in the hubs. They are my lowest performing hubs, but that doesn’t mean that you wouldn’t do better.
The important thing to focus on is this:
1. Include useful content that teaches the reader something they might want to know about he music.
2. Follow all the stellar quality guidelines for hubs.
3. Include a good bio that shows your authority on the subject.
4. Make sure to get your hub into the Spinditty niche site. Follow the Editorial Policy for Spinditty. They link is at the bottom of their pages.
Good luck.
My question would be, what kind of music videos? If you mean videos of current hits, then I wouldn't bother. By the time the Hub gets transferred to Spinditty and starts to get traffic, the song's popularity will be over.
Most Hubs earn very small amounts of money per day. It's their longevity that makes them worth writing. Therefore writing about anything that has a short life span is a waste of effort.
You could try doing some nostalgic ones, e.g. "Great Music Videos of the 1980's"
It was mostly Nostalgic ones I have in mind like Thriller by Michael Jackson, Take on Me by both Weezer and A-ha, Green Jelly's Three Little Pigs, and others just to name a few. I think the only current one I was planning on doing that came out in recent years was Lavender, by Snoop Dogg, where he shot a clown that looked suspiciously like Donald Trump. I was going to write review on that detailing my thoughts on that social commentary in that video. Again, I don't plan to do recent music videos. Just old ones that i grew up with.
You may get a lot of views, if you do it well, or if something related happens (eg my Queen article got a lot of hits when the Freddie Mercury movie came out). But you won't make much money, as it's not a lucrative topic area.
Basically, if you are writing for fun and enjoyment, then go ahead. If you are writing for earnings, don't bother.

I recently read some reviews on Consumer Affairs, which were absolutely devasting and have got me a little worried. I was wondering if anyone else wrote at similar sites prior to HubPages and why they made the switch, and if they had thought about going back.

Do you include a copyright notice in your articles? Why or why not?I never do this, but I see that a lot of folks on here do. Just wondering what the opinions are out there.

Simple as the title says, why do you write? Currently the hubs I have up are things I like talking about as well as things I wanted to know when I first started out as a writer. I'm very passionate about the writing process as well as various forms of publication. This isn't to say I'm not hoping...
