As a publicity stunt, that was one heck of a gamble to do that. So far, it has been utterly brilliant. All the other media are falling all over themselves being politically correct; the net result is Maven got 10 times the publicity they otherwise would have. All that remains is to see how various segments of the general population in certain states will react. It will be interesting to watch as this develops. I'm still keeping an eye on Maven stock.
Maybe it's not a just a "publicity stunt"? True they want people to notice their magazine but there are all kinds of people all around us and maybe it's also a reflection of that? She looks beautiful to me and I can't imagine how much courage it took to put yourself out there like that. Especially with how so many people will react with personal negativity towards her.
I'm just looking at this from a business point of view. We call ourselves the United States of America; but in truth, different parts of America have completely different cultures. I have no idea what to expect, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a backlash that includes boycotting and subscription cancellations. Then again, what with COVID and the racial protests/riots keeping everyone occupied, this could very well be barely a blip on the public's radar. After all, pandemics and riots are so much more entertaining...
Update. And then there's all the rampant speculation about the second stimulus check.
2nd update. And it's a buried-in-politics election year.
I serioiusly doubt it. The boycotting and subscription canellations would most likely only happen if Maven were to come along and say "We will never have a transgendered person in our magazine."
Yep, that is true. Come to think of it, Maven may have opened a Pandora's box. Gays will soon be demanding they have their own section as well.
I think Maven got very lucky that this isn't the usual slow news summer.
Excepting for obnoxious CNN, all news sources remain positive about Sports Illustrated.
I think it’s great! The model is beautiful and it’s really awesome to see such progress being made, even if other people wouldn’t agree.
I doubt anyone cares all that much. It's basically a pin-up issue and always gives a range of models to choose from.
