This may seem like a dumb question, but can anyone post a challenge?

I wasn't sure if they were started by employees here or if anyone can post one, and others can join if they want.

Yes! I challenge you to write 10 articles in 1 week smile

I prefer quality over quantity.  It's a waste of my time to spend hours researching and writing articles that may not be featured or moved to a niche site where they will make money for me.  Why would I want to write a lot of articles that probably won't make any money?

That is true, but I think some people can do both. I think a challenge can be motivating for some people, or what about a challenge that requires the articles to be featured. I haven't done any challenges yet as I am very new here, but I think it could be motivating. I guess it also depends on how long it takes the person to create a well written article. However, for some people you could be right. Thanks for giving your opinion.

OldRoses is correct, as most of the "challenges" I have seen over the years encourage people to publish articles that are not acceptable for network sites and do not gain many views. If you decided to do something like this, but could take a few extra days to publish something exceptional you should do so. If you end up publishing a lot you may just delete them later on. (I am speaking from personal experience. I published one a day my first few months here but have deleted almost all of them.)
Think of that old tortoise and hare fable. Would you rather have millions of impressions or just have a lot of hubs?

You could be right. I guess it depends on who is doing it, and the quality they produce. I have only been here a short time, but I have been writing a long time and have written for many other sites. I would hate to make anyone else rush and produce shoddy quality. so maybe I'll go with my own private challenge but not till next month. It will be interesting to see if I maintain my quality.

Challenges are different from contests, but they can be started by anyone.

I am tempted to take you up on it. I did two today, but I think that might be a little ambitious for a whole week. I am thinking of 20 for the month though.

That would be an average of 5 a week, or an article a day. Translated to reality, it means creating spots for hypertension over night.

Yes, it would be a lot, but much easier than 10 in 1 week. Plus, if I do a half an article on each weekend day, I can have a day off during the week.

I'm at the far end of that spectrum, I have a hub that is 80% completed since the 18th of May xD

Yeah, I have only published one thing since the beginning of this coronavirus thing. Maybe it is something about the wavelengths being emitted.

How often do you typically publish? One a month? Based on a quick profile glance.

Yes, I was planning on about 12 this year. I do not think it is going to happen!

I stopped writing for a couple of weeks when we first got locked down in March.  Then I set myself the goal of publishing at least two articles a week.  It was tough getting back into the groove again but I've been meeting that goal since May.

That's what I do. At the moment, I have been publishing about two articles a week here, but I have only been a member about six weeks.

Challenge matter. That before me is to browse my unfeature articles. These articles in question are feature but later become unfeature? I'm wondering right now.  This is the real challenge. One at a time. Then a new article following.

Anyone can start a challenge, but they are not encouraged.     The reason is that they found challenges reduced the quality of articles being written, and created more work for editors.

When there's a challenge, people churn out Hubs more quickly to make the deadline. You may think, "but I will go back and polish it later".   However, those half-baked Hubs go into the editors' queues and they then waste time assessing and rejecting them.

Thank you. I don't think I will bother. I am motivated enough without it.
