Voting technology company Smartmatic files $2.7 billion lawsuit against Fox News, Rudy Giuliani, some of the network's star hosts, and pro-Trump attorneysand Sidney Powell over 'disinformation campaign'
"We have no choice," Antonio Mugica, the chief executive and founder of Smartmatic, told CNN Business in an interview about the company's decision to file the lawsuit. "The disinformation campaign that was launched against us is an obliterating one. For us, this is existential, and we have to take action."
The lawsuit, filed in New York state court, accused Fox, Giuliani, Powell and hosts Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo, and Jeanine Pirro of intentionally lying about Smartmatic in an effort to mislead the public into the false belief that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from former President Donald Trump.
Smartmatic said in the lawsuit that the conspiracy theories had undermined its business relationships around the world, resulted in a wave of threats against its staff, and contributed to a $767.4 million drop in its parent company's projected profits over the next five years.
Additionally, the lawsuit said, Smartmatic will need to spend $350,000 annually over the next two years in increased security costs to protect the physical safety of its workers and nearly $5 million in fees over the next five years to safeguard the company from a "meteoric rise" in cyberattacks.
Giuliani and Powell have also been sued by another voting technology company, Dominion Voting Systems, for promoting their voter fraud conspiracies.
Do you think Trump is next?
If he isn't next, he should be. Seeing themselves losing power, Trump and his minions, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene have gone on a campaign of lies to discredit their opposition. Their slander and libel culminated in an insurrection at our nation's Capitol in which five people were killed and an unspecified number sustained injuries. While sensible people deplored the damages and mental anguish suffered by government officials and employees, I don't think people on either side considered the damage the false claims of voter fraud would do to the companies that manufacture, program and sell the voter machines. Plus nobody stopped to consider the mental anguish and fear experienced by their employees who have been threatened by this insane bunch. In the U.S.A., we have laws to protect against defamation of character, which is what these false accusations of voter fraud amount to. They were first tweeted and perpetrated by President Donald Trump.
Even after numerous recounts occurred, officials found no evidence of voter fraud. In a couple of isolated instances where "dead" people had voted, the votes were cast for President Trump. However, Trump, like a mud turtle that holds on until it thunders, continues to hold on to the false and libelous claims. If criminal charges won't hold for his actions, then perhaps civil charges will. He certainly deserves to pay.
Hopefully, it will shut him up, but I doubt it.
Fox News Media has canceled “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” the program hosted by television’s staunchest supporter of Donald Trump and of his assertions of voter fraud in the 2020 election, The Times has learned.
Dobbs’ program, which airs twice nightly at 5 and 7 p.m. Eastern on the Fox Business Network, will have its final airing Friday, according to a Fox News representative who confirmed the cancellation.

Oh just stop it now. Gloating isn't attractive. *(I taped over my screen camera so you couldn't capture my snickers).
In the spirit of full disclosure, a couple of years ago I would have defended Lou Dobbs. But, in recent times he turned into just a mouthpiece, like Hannity. And speaking of Hannity . . . It just pinched my butt when I recently read that he earned $43 million last year. Oh geez, what is it that they say about 'laughing all the way to the bank'?
For half of that I might . . .

It is clear the kids and Trump have committed several federal crimes - otherwise Trump wouldn't feel a need to pardon them "preemptively", yet they are not under any federal investigation at the moment. So why pardon them if they have done nothing wrong.I just found out today that...

On the Jan. 6 insurrection, they thought they were following Trump's orders to storm the capitol. Here is the good, bad, and the ugly about Roger Stone's connection to these para military groups. We all know it will be party-line loyalty for most voters. According to Pew Research, six percent of voters for the 2022 elections crossed party lines. For the mythical independent voter, it is a binary choice for the President. We are fortunate to be able to assess two Presidents based on criteria...
