To isolate the main difficulty of our current political debates, you have two types of political beliefs which lead in opposite directions:
1.) Those who believe in operating according to obedience to some sort of political system.
2.) Those who believe in operating according to one's own will, (which is the freedom to choose and guide one's own course and direction in life.)
Now, obedience to a SYSTEM takes away freedom of choice.
For instance,
Political party: One.
Freedom of speech: No.
Free Market: Limited, if any.
Self-chosen employment: Government managed labor camps.
Democratic republics, however, allow individual freedom.
For instance:
Freedom in the market place, Yes.
Freedom of speech, Yes.
Self-chosen employment, Yes.
Yes, in theory, you might have equality of outcome through obedience to a system, but with democracy, (within boundaries provided by a constitution designed to provide justice and liberty,) you have equality in opportunity.
Opportunity is more important than outcome. Why be concerned with outcome for all, through a governmental system, (which will necessarily be a totalitarian regime of some type,) when you can have opportunity for all through freedom within boundaries?
We have sacrifice too much of our freedoms and security for the Governments assumed safety.
A democratic republic is a system. In the U.S. that system is defined by the constitution. One of its purposes is protection of civil liberties.
The covid has broken more civil liberties and constitutional laws than any other Time I have seen in my entire life.
Spoken by a senior.
The focus of that system is not the SYSTEM.
But its becoming LESS SO.
... partly because the people are so damn lazy and entitled.
What's the insensitive? All this free money and so much free time on your hands. As for being handed a fish rather than fishing for one.
And employers who need employees can't find reliable people to fill their jobs. Also individuals need services from people like repairmen, and they can't get them. Soon there could be a societal breakdown caused by the recipients of all this "free" income.
yes.
... giving more power to The System to be relied upon to FIX it!
And encourge them in introducing the process: don't force them.
No one likes to be forced.
"Put the bait on the hook!
Now put that pole out and catch some fish!"
And wait there until you get a bite!
... and don't move!"
no, thanks ...

H.R.1 - For the People Act of 2021
Passed House (03/03/2021)
For the People Act of 2021
"This bill addresses voter access, election integrity and security, campaign finance, and ethics for the three branches of government.
Specifically, the bill expands voter registration (e.g., automatic and same-day registration) and voting access (e.g., vote-by-mail and early voting). It also limits removing voters from voter rolls.
The bill requires states to establish independent redistricting commissions to carry out congressional redistricting.
Additionally, the bill sets forth provisions related to election security, including sharing intelligence information with state election officials, supporting states in securing their election systems, developing a national strategy to protect U.S. democratic institutions, establishing in the legislative branch the National Commission to Protect United States Democratic Institutions, and other provisions to improve the cybersecurity of election systems.
Further, the bill addresses campaign finance, including by expanding the prohibition on campaign spending by foreign nationals, requiring additional disclosure of campaign-related fundraising and spending, requiring additional disclaimers regarding certain political advertising, and establishing an alternative campaign funding system for certain federal offices.
The bill addresses ethics in all three branches of government, including by requiring a code of conduct for Supreme Court Justices, prohibiting Members of the House from serving on the board of a for-profit entity, and establishing additional conflict-of-interest and ethics provisions for federal employees and the White House.
The bill requires the President, the Vice President, and certain candidates for those offices to disclose 10 years of tax returns."

This bill takes away the states jurisdiction over their elections. The System plans to diminish the power of the states.
- requires states to establish independent redistricting commissions to carry out
c o n g r e s s i o n a l redistricting.
- develops a N a t i o n a l strategy to protect U.S. democratic institutions,
- establishes, in the L e g i s l a t i v e branch, a N a t i o n a l Commission to Protect United States Democratic Institutions. (Which ones?)
- establishes other provisions (What are they) to improve the cybersecurity of election systems.(?)
- requires additional disclosure of campaign-related fundraising and spending. (Huh?)
- requires additional disclaimers (?) regarding certain (?) political advertising.
- establishes an alternative (?) campaign funding system for certain
F e d e r a l offices. (How come?)
RE: national strategy to protect U.S. democratic institutions.
Badly needed because of all the gerrymandering going on. Not my just my opinion since I live in a highly gerrymandered district, but it's been discussed by talking heads on the news recently, and some print and digital journalists are picking it up.

- let the states fix their own problems.
That's not a viable suggestion because that is exactly how it works: states and localities. And the localities are very good at gerrymandering so Jubilation T. Cornpone and his ilk are assured to be elected. That has put the fox in the hen house. The state and local violations of civil rights are exactly why the feds are looking at it.
No. It has to work and states (the people of those states) can address and fix their own problems.
If they don't, they will give up their power.
We need statehood.
The supporters of The System wants to diminish the power of the states in favor of the central government.
