Is "wrong niche site" or something similar one possible reason for getting kicked off Owlcation?
If an editor or staff member could find the time in their busy schedule to just answer ""yes" or "no".
That's all. Nobody is asking for in-depth anything here.
I mean, if I could draw two boxes so all you had to do was check one I would, but these forums don't allow it.
If anyone else wants to speculate, have at it. It is all a mystery.
Right on Eric, as we might have said some decades ago. During the current filtration of Owlcation I have had several articles shifted over to Soapboxie. No explanation and no rationale that I could see.
Eric, this may shed some light, it’s from 2018. I was told my article was switched from one niche to another because it was a better fit.
“We are writing to let you know that we have moved Tips to Cure Blank Brain and Get Rid of That Foggy Feeling from LetterPile to Owlcation because we think it is a better fit for your content. We want you to know that we don't take moving content between sites lightly, but we think it is in the best interest of you and your readers to have your article moved. It is possible that you will see traffic fluctuations on this article in the near future, but your article's traffic should recover from the move—usually traffic stabilizes within 30 days. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks for writing for the HubPages Network!”
But they aren't even moving the articles. They are just kicking them off Owlcation without any reason.
I feel like maybe the articles are a better fit for Exemplore, but that isn't based on anything the editors said. Just guessing.
In fact, HubPages are the ones who put these articles on Owlcation. I didn't submit them.
Thanks for posting this forum discussion, Eric.
When submitting articles to a network site, editors also enjoy playing site mismatch games. I have an article on my profile that I believe would be a good fit for Patient's Lounge, as I have some articles in the same vein there. So I submitted that article to Patient's lounge.
That's what the editors told me:
Hi Misbah786,
Thank you for submitting your article, When and Why Should We Go to a Psychologist?, for consideration on Patient's Lounge. In order for articles to be eligible to move to Patient's Lounge, a HubPages Network Site, they must meet our quality standards. Network Sites are subject-specific channels where the highest-quality articles live. Writing an eligible article is a huge accomplishment, and you’re on your way there!
We have identified a few issues that need to be addressed before your article can be considered. We ask that you address the issues below and then submit your article for reconsideration. When you have made the requested changes, simply visit the live article and click the “submit to a HubPages Network Site” button above your article’s title to begin the submission process.
The Editor who reviewed your article suggests that you address the following issues:
Site Mismatch:
Each Network Site has a unique focus. Unfortunately, the content of your article is not a good fit for ##sitename##. Consider reviewing a list of our Network Sites to see what topics and article types fit best on each site.
If you need more help, or would just like to get some additional opinions and perspectives, we invite you to post in the “Improving Your Article Forum”.
I submitted it in February 2022. I never submitted it again. Do you know why? Because it appeared to be a computer-generated email.
Under the heading 'Site mismatch.' It states:
"Each Network Site has a unique focus. Unfortunately, the content of your article is not a good fit for ##sitename##. Consider reviewing a list of our Network Sites to see what topics and article types fit best on each site."
What is that ##sitename##.?
I think if that email was sent by a human, it would have said 'Patient's Lounge' rather than##sitename##.
I don't have enough time to resubmit the same article to the same niche and try to satisfy an automated system.
Editors don't have time to leave you a note saying, please try submitting this article on this (wherever they think it fits in), but they want you to keep the forums busy debating where you should submit it. I never understood this concept.
Best wishes!
At least they were telling you to try another site. Then again, there was a time when the editors would simply shuffle your submission to the appropriate site. Can't be bothered now, I guess.
Yes, it's frustrating Eric. I've had a few kicked down to Discover and it seems the reason is mostly that they aren't attracting readers - the standard seems to be fewer than 10 views a month and they're gone.
You can always delete the underperformers, let them lie fallow for a few weeks, and they tweak them and resubmit them. I've used this strategy a couple a times and it's worked.
As you pointed out, these articles were deemed good enough for the niche sites in the first go round.
I also experienced this: " there was a time when the editors would simply shuffle your submission to the appropriate site."
The other reason I can think of is that as new, more current, articles get written on the same/similar topic, old ones get bumped off to keep the sites fresh.
