Intuition has been long classified as the 6th sense but is it really a true sense like touch, sight, hearing, tasting, and smelling or is it the product of all 5? Our brains take in information, process it then use it to interact with the outside world. By enhencing our abilities to process information are we not enhancing our mind power and our ability to percieve and react to things before they happen. What are your thoughts?

Intuition is a real sense if you ask me. My hubby calls it "plugging into the universe". Have you ever had a "feeling" you needed to be somewhere? And when you get to that place it just makes sense? Or felt like there was a wire running between you and your mate? Can you sense it when it gets pinged? I think that is intuition and that it is a good thing smile

Great answer. I have heard of situations where maternal twins for instance are able to sense each others emotional shifts even though they were in different places. Definitely unexplainable

As far as I know intuition is not a trained response, but something felt, or like a thought I didn't think myself. Hard to explain. It will be interesting to see other responses.

Intuition is the subject of a couple of books I've just read. Intriguing subject with no clear answers as yet (scientifically).

I remember my (then) husband and I were sitting at the table talking when he suddenly urgently asked, "Where's A? Where is he?" A is our oldest son. He was at a scout swim and at that very same time his dad got a horrible feeling, it turned out my son was drowning but was pulled out by a lifeguard. His dad's feeling was strong and frightening enough that he got directions, jumped up and drove out to get him. He brought him home safely.

I would not call intuition a sense for two reasons.  One- it is not a sense we can use on demand.  Two- the intuition people experience is very different from one person to the next.

My experience with intuition is that all of the boys and men I disliked in a certain way as a child were pedophiles, molesting either their children, grandchildren or siblings.

I've recently did some digging into the area of the mind. And, to grab a hold of "intuition" or "gut feeling", I've come to the understanding that these feelings are not a so much a sense.

But, just a feeling. It is your conscience in a gray area, while your subconsciousness tries to reveal a connection to something. What the connection is for you to determine or figure out? While in that state, your conscience will remain undecided, as to whether or not, it's right or wrong, because there isn't enough information, as of yet.

Hence, the feelings. The feelings can range in a wide variety, such as a sudden ill feeling or even a sense of emergence, or your nerves could start twitching, making your hand shake.

Experiences are going to be different from person to person, because we are all different, and handle things differently.

So, I'll leave with that. Thank you for such a great question. big_smile

So, if I understand you correctly, you are saying that intuition is our subconscience communicating with our conscience, thus a form of dreaming that alerts us?

Not sure I can explain this very well, but I will try.

My ex and I lived in a small house. One day I was doing laundry and felt like I need to go over by the storage area. There were about 15 totes along the storage wall. I went to a particular one just because I "felt" like I was supposed to. I found pornography. When I asked him about it - he flipped out asking me how I knew it - he had only brought it in the house a few hours before. Things like this happen frequently.
It is like a sense. There is no reason, just a knowing or a leading. I feel it is a gift from the divine to benefit me.
When things get lost I also tap into that sense. It isn't something I judge but accept. To me it is intuition even if it unnerves some people, usually someone trying to pull something.

Well, did I explain it ok? smile

I think that some instincts are inherited. Take for instance; a new born deer only thirty minutes old is able to walk and run pretty fast. At that age it already has many instincts as to when to be afraid and run from danger.  I believe that while in the womb the mothers are, on some level communicating knowledge to the unborn.
I think that instincts is a form of knowledge that we are unaware of where it comes from.
