Anyone here upgraded to Win 7?

   I'm considering buying the upgrade because I am sick and tired of Windows Vista running too slow. On top of that I have problems and am waiting on my mother posting out my Win disk to me (I left it at her house last time I visited - but she's 2000 miles away!)so that I can see if I have damaged win files.
   Anyway, if I ugraded it should solve that problem.
   I downloaded and ran the windows 7 compatibility file and it tells me Skype won't work on Windows 7. Is that the case?Is it really much faster than Vista?

   I am running W7 for about a year now, including RC1 beta testing. Never had Vista, comparing to XP I can't say that it runs slower, may be even faster - but then I went from 3G to 8G because of 32 bit to 64 bit upgrade, which sorta makes a difference. There were a few minor problems in RC1, not a single problem since I installed the final version.
   
   I read reports of it running on as low as 64Megs, but you hardly can do anything at all other than boot it LOL. But since you are having Vista already, I guess you have at least 1Gig, likely 2. Should be just fine IMO.
   
   Not sure about Skype, did not have it W7 - so can't comment.

   This laptop is way fast enough for the new OS. Got a dual core 2Ghz processor and 3gbs of RAM. In fact if I'd run XP on it instead, it would be flying!
   I want to keep Skype, so I guess I'll read around the internet to see if something can be sorted.
   I should've become a beta tester like you - would have got the product for free! (bought the laptop 8 months too early to get a free upgrade).

   Yes its much faster than Vista. For Skype, you can change its compatibility mode if you go on the properties section of the program.

   I have Vista and want to upgrade to Win 7, but everyone around me locally I have asked about upgrading says that it is difficult to upgrade and you have to go into so many areas to delete Vista files individually. For this reason I haven't upgraded.
   I don't know if this information is true or not, but maybe someone on HP that knows about upgrading can shed some light on this.

   Its better to do a full installment rather than upgrade. In upgrading you lose efficiency because the operating systems are different.
   In terms of deleting many Vista files individually this isn't necessarily true. You will have to delete Vista directory, if that's what they meant.

   Here's a thought. If I made a hub and included an Amazon capsule selling the Windows 7 upgrade pack, could I then buy it myself and in effect get a discount?

   I thought about it because my new PC came with Vista, and I was worried it was going to run like a dog.
   
   However, I found a fantastic site which tells you what to switch off in Vista to make it run faster, and it really works.  Trouble is I can't remember the URL of the site - I printed off the table.
   
   I'm pretty sure I got the link from Hal Licino so I'll have a look at his Hubs and see if I can remember!

    Thanks Marisa, I have now made the tweaks at the first level. I'll see if its any better when I reboot or blue screen out, whichever comes first
    
    @Mel - thanks for that, but with any luck I maybe won't need to go to the expense of an upgrade if this works.

    I am on 7 now as well, love it VERY much
    
    Im still having a weird problem i had from Vista though, for some reason when i restart my computers, when it shuts down to restart the laptop stay on but the screen is blank.........
