Can one write one's own fiction on HubPages?
Mine is currently inspired by Asimov's Robots and Robot Love, and sci-fi and spacetravel in general.
I do admit to using strong language, but hopefully only where appropriate, such as banter, arguing and adversarial situations between characters, or in rants, or to convey an authentic situation or character.
My main characters are usually warm-hearted basically decent persons, but often quite feisty and adversarial - hence the sometimes strong language!
I also have 'explicit' sexual scenes but only in a loving context - never sado-masochistic or violent as I hate that sort of thing. These can be homoerotic, and sometimes between a human and a non-human - such as a humaniform robot or android
I never resort to gratuitous violence or gore either as I hate those too! Any mention of these is done as an allusion, or example of something bad.
I read that HubPages does not accept material that one's posted onto other sites - so, would changing a few words here and there make it possible to post fiction that's also on another site?
Also, what is the maximum length / bytes / number of words that one can post in any one piece of writing?
HubPages doesn't actually prohibit posting material that's on another site - it just won't perform that well. As fiction doesn't earn much anyway, that may not matter to you.
My questions would be, why would you want to post it again? Where is it posted originally? Why not post an article about the book here and include a link to its location?
Despite it's bluntness, Marisa has a good point. I too am a Science Fiction writer, and while I haven't posted very many pieces on here that fall into that category, I have found hubpages to be an incredible resource for getting my name out there. The trick is to fill a niche here so that people will follow your work from here to your other sites (and buy your books, if you've written them) because they like what you've written on hubpages. So I'd say, keep the material you have on other sites there, be patient, and when you write a new piece of science fiction (or anything else) put it up here on hubpages to broaden your exposure as a writer. Remember, writing is a drive-- while there may not be much you feel good about putting out there yet, there will be more than you can handle one day.
Sorry you thought I was blunt, Earl - I thought I was just asking for more info so I could answer the question.
Cat, if this is a book which you've published elsewhere, you might find this Hub interesting. I wrote it for Crash Cromwell, who is in a similar position with a fantasy book.

Marisa, many thanks for your most informative articles (hubs?), and the brilliant piece of info on your 'How to Promote Your Novel' hub!
Creating links to my writings (no, it's not a book, just a few short interconnected stories) would be a great idea - far better than struggling to upload / post all my material yet again, a process I find pretty nerve-wracking!
I'll now try and learn how to create links (something I've never done before) as this is clearly an advantageous thing to do. I've posted my short stories onto LiveJournal, and FanFiction.net (hope it's OK to mention site names?) and am thinking of FaceBook - though again, here, should I create links rather than actually post material?
I use the name CatBar throughout, on every site I'm registered with, as it's simply an abbreviation of my real name - if I'd chosen some fancy handle, chances are I'd forget who it was!
I must also learn how to properly upload my icon (avatar?) - it's one I drew up myself, but I'll need to also learn how to format it etc.
(If this message appears twice, and cannot be deleted, many apologies! - it wasn't clear, first time, if it had been submitted or not).
Many thanks for your heartening response, Earl. I adore writing but am not computer-literate! I find all the pitfalls of linking and uploading etc really nerve-wracking and frustrating.
Hope I don't go and bore everyone with my current crush on Asimov's robots which is at present inspiring - and fuelling! - all my subject-matter.
I've loved sci-fi since my early teens and read Asimov's robot series books back then without really understanding them but still managing to thoroughly enjoy them - they had a certain delicious eeriness.
Now, 40 years later I've completely fallen in love.

I understand some people are worried about the "antiHubChallenge" or whatever it's called, and I just wanted to say something on a personal level to get my own thoughts out in the open about it. And this is my PERSONAL view - yes, we do have a HubChallenge team and we...

I have written under the guise of different pseudonyms on HubPages since 2010. I never earned more than $5. Can you earn money on this site from writing fiction or is this site more a 'self-help' 'how to' blog that needs 'polls, pictures and links etc?'

Does anyone use this venue for serialized fiction? I'm thinking it might be fun to write something along the lines of Carrie Bradshaw's Sex and the City column, or Armistead Maupin's Tale's of the City. Maybe this is not an appropriate place to do this...please do give me your impressions or...

I've noticed that Fiction seems to be very rare on HubPages. Or is it just me?
