I am writing about holiday locations so thought I would do an informal survey here to get your opinions on what the ingredients of a really good holiday are. So what do you think makes a top quality holiday?

    - The right place...and the right person to share it with!
    - Great weather and food
    - Reasonably comfortable place to stay in (though nothing beats good room service!)
    - internet availability
And LOTS of money to spend! smile

    Good weather
    Friendly helpful people
Historic sites, art galleries, museums, concerts, folklore events to visit
Places to stay with comfortable beds and a pleasant garden to read in
Good food with abundance of fresh fruit as well
Lively streets with musicians, street theatre, stalls selling quality goods crafted locally
A beach with good swimming in a warm sea is an added plus but not essential

A stay-cation that, for once, does not require expensive travel, huge grocery and gift expenditure, and massive preparation including house cleaning, cooking and decoration.

How about a holiday that is just about enjoying people in a real and genuine way.  One where you hand select your company and get to know them more deeply than you did the week and decade before.

Everything everyone said sums it up, I however would say that simply being with people you enjoy being around makes a holiday. I have went on a small road trip with friends, no destination, just gas and food, and had more fun then planned vacations.
