Wondering you had an experience with Shingles. How did you treat it? I have it on my knee and upper leg. Thanks. Jolly
I've had shingles 8 times. Really sorry that you're going through this!!
If you have had it for more than 2 or 3 days, you need to focus on rebuilding your immune system. Taking antiviral remedies lose most of their effect after this point. HOWEVER, that being said, you can begin a course of oregano oil, or colloidal silver. I've written about both of these.
For shingles, you really need to start such remedies (or ANY remedy, even seeing a doctor) within 24 hours of symptoms and signs. The sooner, the better.
Once your body has the virus under control, you will still have lots of misery for about a month. You'll have lots of fatigue followed by a few hours feeling good, then awful again. You need lots of rest, and if you aren't taking a good quality multi-vitamin/mineral, you'll want to start that right away. Push B vitamins a lot. Take them With FOOD. (Take all your vitamins with food or they don't assimilate well.)
Healing of the blisters is not fun, either. After the feeling of being shot with a shot gun goes away, there is itching.
However, all that said, give yourself a break, get lots of rest, and stick with the basics, and you should be able to recover fairly soon. It totally whacks your immune system and that takes time to rebuild, so you'll need to be patient with that process.
Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Yeah, nasty. Don't remember what mom did, it was over 50 years ago. Drove me nuts, I do remember that. Don't hear of it much anymore. Good luck with it.
Sorry to hear that Jollytan. At a minimum I would get some anti-itch lotion. If it were me, I'd probably go to the doctor to get prescription strength lotion. My mother had some bouts with shingles and she really suffered. I hope yours is just a mild case and you feel better soon.
You poor thing! I know it can be very painful. My youngest daughter and my Grandpa had it.
I'm not sure what they did for Grandpa, aside from giving him something for the pain, but my daughter had a cream that was $900! a tube. That was in the late 80's or early '90's and she needed 2 tubes. Thankfully, it was covered under my benefits at work. Can't remember what the stuff was called (it started with a 'z')or whether or not she had to take any pills with it.
Best of luck to you.
I had them when I was 6, and don't remember much about it, except that my mom packed oat-meal (cooked and cooled) on the shingles, to help control the itch. I think there was also a medicine she gave me.
Soak a washcloth in ice water and apply as needed. Take an aspirin or an Ibuprofen it will help with inflammation and get a lot of rest.
It is more than coinsidence that this became a topic AND that I just happened to read it, my boyfriend thinks he is dealing with it twice in his life (the first was in the early 70's. He has it on his side and it is spreading to his back. He is miserable!!
I've had EYE SHINGLES four times. They "say" you can only get it once, and only on one side of the face. So wrong "they" are. I have the scars to prove it.
The only treatment I know of for shingles is the antivirals. But PREVENTING them is another matter. I haven't had a single case of shingles since I started approaching my health in a non-traditional way. I just wrote about this today: http://hubpages.com/hub/Getting-More-ou … ood-Health It's amazing how many forum topics I am finding that directly relate to the hub I posted.

What books did you read as a child between the ages of ten and fifteen?I know there are probably a few Hubbers who were born before 1950, and was wondering what books they read as kids. I'm thinking about a Hub along these lines highlighting some I read and still remember names and titles, even...

As we all are living very busy lives, no longer do we plan as many meals as we used to. After a long week, my wife and have deemed Friday our "take out" night as far as dinners go. We have a few favorites, but our favorite, is a few taco trucks here in town.
