Miscommunication

   Many people don't, and MAY NEVER, have a true understanding of faith. Yet we all understand compassion, mercy, empathy, and kindness. Be it atheist, christian, muslim, or any other belief, I suggest we focus on the things we agree on. I believe ALL religions teach unity rather than disunity.

      i agree with you but religion is so emotionally attached subject why its followers that discussion becomes impossible...as u said compassion,empathy are universal ...

      So, we should just ignore the things we don't agree on like the fact that your loving, compassionate, merciful and kind god will send me to burn for an eternity in a lake of hellfire?
      
      Do we just skip over that small detail for the sake of agreeing on other things?
      
      Oh yes, we do understand faith, and it is a very scary thing.

      The problem with religion is that they all profess to be the only path to "heaven" and you must follow their teachings if you wish to be with god in the afterlife.
      
      But any religion is like just another corporation looking to expand their market share for not only the souls of believers but their capital too.
      
      Still, all religion has a role to play in society. They also accomplish some good some charity and I'm not one to belittle the beliefs of another, so have faith, practice your beliefs, live and let live.

         That might be like vegetarians finding commonalities with meat eaters.  And maybe not.  Every belief system "could" POSSIBLY??? find more common ground than at first thought.

         What about them? If they are capable of reasoning, then the value of unity should be obvious enough to empower them to dedicate themselves to a principle which has positive results for all.

   I would agree with this statement if we just wanted to get along ....But the extreemest won't let that happen. Agreeing to disagree is a state that is better than a declaration of war...
   BUT.. nothing ever gets settled that way.
   
      If it could be done in  peaceful conversation??? I believe it to be better to eleminate the diffrences by discusing them AND validate the reason for one belief over an other.
      Unfortunately  as humans, we tend to "stuborn up" and cease discusion when we see support for our beliefs dwendling
   No progress will ever be acheived until we can overcome this reflex (fight or flee).

      I would think this is true to an extent. Denominational tilles and names yes should not be adressed;  diffrences within "Christianity" or within Islam etc should be adressed and settled during the process.
        Once this has been done we might find fewer diffrences between the "isms".   
         Need to start someplace such as "does" being babtized in a Church that has a piano in the corner of the room; invalidate my babtism, or what day It took place? 
         To discover what issues are truly revelant and which are not.
