If you are playing scrabble and the only word you can play is..
a racial, sexist, or some other bad word do you play or pass?
Does the word appear in the official Scrabble dictionary? If so, then absolutely. I distinguish between words and the intent in word usage. I am using the word to play a game not insult or harm someone.
When I play Scrabble, I play for the fun and challenge of the game. If I choose to play words that are offensive, bad, or degrading; then, I've taken the fun out of the game. It saddens me when so much innocence is lost in the simple pleasures of life.
i love scrabble and i would have no problem putting down any word that works. it's a game, not a politically correct lesson in life.
Good question. I've been in this situation when playing strangers online on a free, public game site, and I have chosen to pass my turn. I don't know many of the people I end up playing online, and I don't know what might offend them. For me, getting some points is just not worth embarassing or offending someone. It's just a game, after all.
