Which way do you want Resident Evil to go? Back to Survival or into Action?
Controversy has been a huge thing with Capcom, and change hasn't helped them. The fans have struck back hard though, and the corporation is beginning to feel pressure. With Resident Evil 6 on the way, I ask you what you'd prefer - the exact same survival horror of before, or delving deeper into the unknown with action horror? State what you'd prefer, and why.
Me personally, I hate the action side. It's a system that wasn't built around the survival engine, failing miserably. But RE6.... that might be proving me wrong.
The best thing about the first RE was the atmosphere. It was creepy, you felt alone and vulnerable, and the zombies felt like a real threat, something to be taken seriously. Ever since that first game, there has been a progressive leaching away of all these elements in the interest of making the game more action-y and mainstream.
Honestly, the trailers for RE6 don't look that much different than CoD to me. Yeah, the lighting is darker, and the enemies are zombies, but it looks like every other action game. RE1 is one of my favorite games of all time, but I have no interest in playing RE6. And I don't think going back to survival horror means doing everything exactly the same way. Imo, survival horror, as a genre, has never been adequately explored. There's still a lot of room for innovation, but I don't think RE is going to be the one doing the innovating. Heck, Tomb Raider looks more like survival horror than RE. They're moving in opposite directions.
Thanks for the comment j-u-i-c-e. I've written an article based on my demo experiences on RE6, feat. a video from internet critic Angry Joe. I think that might give you more insight to the game ^^
Well, you know my taste good enough to bet that I´d prefer definately the survival horror. You would win the bet.
I love games like Penumbra, Amnesia and lately Into the Dark.
But I`m afraid, the rules of the mass market point into another direction...
Thanks for the comment OldGamer, glad you prefer tradition. I don't think the rules of mass market agree with CapCom with all their latest scams and DLC BS. The fans are really putting pressure on the devs for this change ^^
well, not on that, Fans can really go mad when they feel cheated or scamed. But I still guess the sales figures for an action-focused RE would be higher than for survival horror, although I`d prefer the second of course.
What annoyed me about the survival is the way you had to stop aim and shoot it was really slow and unrealistic, the action is good like on operation racoon city but doesn't feel resident eviliy, as its own game it's fine. it will always be a survival even if they don't get rid of the aiming thing
In my opinion the survival aspect is what makes Resident Evil. It should have suspense, strategy and tactics involved. I feel that this makes challenging and increases the intensity.

What do you personally like about the Resident Evil franchise?I'm not one to play horror games and Resident Evil is no exception. I've often been cynical about the game because apart from its superb soundtrack, the series has almost no genuine horror except for jump scares. What do you like about...
