Health Benefits of Yogurt, Yoghurt, Yogourt or Yoghourt
I love yogurt. Yogurt is not only delicious but also good for us. The health benefits of yogurt are numerous. But did you know that men didn't eat yogurt until recently? This is true, because yogurt companies used to focus their advertising to women and children. But men are smarter than they look. Although in the past men found yogurt girly food, recent surveys show that men eat yogurt now not only because of it's health benefits but they actually like yogurt.
So do real men eat yogurt? You betcha!
According to Real Men Eat Yogurt thread in TalkBass.com forums, real men definitely eat yogurt. Here is one answer to prove it.
From Big Hungry, Orem, Ut - "Hell yes! I eat at least one and up to four yogurts a day. Not only is it good for you but it's also delicious. I find that most store brands depending on the store are the same quality if not better than name brand and generally cost 30-50% less..... I prefer Blended yogurts as opposed to Light or Fruit on the Bottom.
Yep, I'm not afraid to admit that I'm a man, and I enjoy yogurt!"
Now, Isn't that interesting?

And get this, some manufacturers are adding vitamins, omega-3s and probiotics to further enhance the health benefits of yogurt.
Yogurt is rich in calcium
- Calcium is essential for maintaining colon health and reducing the risk of colon cancer.
- Calcium works with the live cultures found in some yogurt to increase absorption by the bones, making yogurt an excellent choice to help prevent osteoporosis.
- Calcium is also beneficial to teeth health.
- Healthy levels of calcium can also encourage the body to maintain and lose weight.
Yogurt May Reduce the Risk of High Blood Pressure
A recent study at the Harvard School of Public Health, which followed more than 5,000 Spanish university graduates for about two years, found that eating 2-3 servings of low-fat dairy a day (or more) reduces the risk of developing high blood pressure by 50%. Isn't that amazing?
Yogurt is Good for Your Digestive System
Yogurt has active cultures that may help certain gastrointestinal conditions, including lactose intolerance, constipation, diarrhea, colon cancer inflammatory bowel disease and H. pylori infection.
Research at the Jean Mayer U.S. Department of Agriculture Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University concluded that the nutritional benefits of eating yogurt are due to:
- Changes in the microflora of the digestive system
- The time food takes to go through the bowel
- Enhancement of the body's immune system
In addition, a recent Taiwanese study found that yogurt improved the efficacy of four-drug therapy in H. pylori infections. H. pylori is a type of bacteria that can cause infection in the stomach and upper part of the small intestine. It can lead to ulcers and can increase the risk of developing stomach cancer.
Attention Ladies: Yogurt May Prevent Vaginal Infections
Eating yogurt on a daily basis can prevent vaginal infection.
In addition, yogurt can also be used topically to help cure bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections.
- Plain, unpasteurized yogurt contains lactobacillus acidophilus, or "good" bacteria. Applying this type of yogurt directly into the vagina, using a small spoon, spatula or an old vaginal cream applicator, at night for three to seven nights should help restore the balance of bacteria in your vagina. Just be sure to wear a pad as it can get a bit messy.
Yogurt is also a good source of protein.
Protein helps give the body energy to keep you throughout the day. Protein is an essential building block for many systems in the body, including your muscles. Protein is also good for curbing your appetite and helping you feel full for a longer period of time.
This further proves that yogurt helps in weight maintenance and weight loss.
