   How do you feel about euthanasia?
   
   What are your thoughts on mercy killing because they have an incurable illness.

   Personally, I think it should be an option for people in those dire positions. I am very close to the local medical community (I'm married to one, good friends with others) and constantly hear about people whose bodies are failing in every way and who don't want continued help, but once they're in the hospital and/or deemed unable to make those decisions for themselves they have no choice but to submit to everything that medical science can throw at them. Most recently here, a 94-year-old woman who had been in the nursing home for years finally died after her 23rd surgery. She didn't even want the first one, but since she'd gone into the nursing home all of those decisions were made by her kids and grandkids. That said, I have also seen people go through the pain and suffering of pancreatic cancer, amongst others, and all that could be done for them was increasing doses of morphine until they died. Add to that, people who really want to put an end to it will...a few months ago a woman here who had been suffering a debilitating, incurable illness for years (she was in her 40s) finally got to the point that she asked her husband not to call the ambulance for 15 minutes, then went into her garage and shot herself twice. The people who make the decisions about the legality of euthanasia are generally not the people who are suffering, and they are generally people who are simply trying to cater to the sensibilities of their voters.
