Can drinking too much water lead to a health problem and if so how many glasses is too much
It can if it's not offset with electrolytes. The sodium-potassium pump is responsible for, amongst other things, heart function. Especially if you're sweating heavily and drinking lots of water, but not replenishing the other nutrients lost, then your cells will start taking on more water than is healthy for them and, eventually, your heartbeat will get weaker and weaker until you go into heart failure. Obviously, this doesn't mean that any set amount of water is dangerous, one could drink several gallons a day indefinitely as long as they take care to also proportionately consume the necessary electrolytes to stay healthy.
We have all had it suggested, even advised that drinking a
lot of water is good for you. However I don’t think the people who have been
doing it for years or the doctors who recommend it know how challenging a fete
this is for a newbie.
