If stored properly (dark, dry, cool location), a medication (including ibuprofen) is safe for consumption up to it's expiration date. Prescription medications received from a pharmacy are generally safe for consumption for 1 year past the date of dispensing (usually an expiration date of 1 year is indicated on the prescription label). If a medicine has changed color, texture, or odor, it is advisable not to take the medication.

    - Avoid storing any medication in bathroom medicine cabinets, which tend to be located in a damp, steamy environment.
    - Avoid storing drugs in the kitchen cabinet near a stove/oven as heat tends to rapidly degrade medicines.
