   Why are people arrogant and is it a sign of lurking inferiority complex?
   
   Some people behave as if they own the world. Whey look down on others and feel they are lesser people.They have such high thoughts about themselves and actually such people are affected by inferiority complex. A really successful person will never feel arrogant and in fact they are humble as their worthy success makes them feel fulfilled.

   Arrogance is often a cloak that hides feeling of inadequacy... but then people do walk around with chips on their shoulders..because of their past.  I guess instead of judging them and putting in a box with a label on it, it is better to be compassionate or if not just let them be, while you get on with yours.

   I don't think it is a sign of an inferiority complex. It relates a lot to how they have been treated as children. Parents, teachers, maids, etc. inflated their self concept. Additionally, most arrogant people were given everything as children, and as adults, they feel like the world owes them. In places like India and South America, most of the children of the upper class act in such arrogant ways. I have never been to India, but I think that the behavior expressed normally in Bollywood movies indicates a tremendous arrogance by the upper class, when they deal with the "plebeians".
   If we want to reduce arrogance, we must teach people empathy over authority.  Disciplinarian families teach obedience instead of reason. This generates a direct source for arrogance. The moment a person has unquestionable authority, the person becomes arrogant.

   I definitely think that in some cases, arrogance is a shield to hide someone's inferiority complex. It's sad that they have to be this way because it just makes them unpleasant to be around.
   
   I'd rather they work on building up their self esteem, wouldn't you?
   
   As to your statement about the really successful people not behaving arrogant just look at Warren Buffet, probably the most humble human being I have ever come across. He's someone to be admired and copied if possible.

   Arrogance is complex. Often people who seem arrogant are really hiding an inferiority complex. There are also very arrogant people who, believe you me, really think themselves very special and/or smarter than others. They are not hiding a complex; they just have a distorted view of reality. This could result from their parents constantly giving them material things, support, and always making them the center of attention. This leads to a feeling of entitlement. It's a big problem nowadays!

   Why have you asked this question if you already have your answer?  What's the point?  Most people are arrogant period!  It's all about masking it or not caring if it is seen.  Then again for whatever reason "confidence" has been interpretted as arrogance.  I guess another box is needed....Ah Vey
