How do you manage the up and down swings when living with depression?
I have suffered from depression for over 15 years and it is severe depression. I have great days and sometimes I even have great weeks, but then out of the blue my depression hits hard and I am stuck in a chair and I don't have the strength to get up and face the world. I don't always know how to handle these swings.
Oooh...Please surround yourself with people who love you unconditionally..then when something like that happens, you have to manage to get up, put clothes on and do something physical, like taking a walk outside...
The bottom line, you have to engage in an activity. Bake a cake, make French toast, make coffee..something that you have to do, physically.
Depression is an invidious illness. One solution for you may be to take care of yourself on the good days and write down things that you are good at and things that you can do well as a resource for you to review on the down days. Art, journaling and music are all great resources and can be helpful for depression. I write a daily motivational journal on line, the link to Finding Fiji is in my profile.
