Do you think a lot of our ailments or illnesses are just in our head?

There is a name and a prescription anymore for basically everything from if you sneeze, are sad for more than 3 minutes, to active, not active enough, etc.  Do you think a lot of our illnesses are just in out head from everything we've heard and read about?

I think to a certain extent they can be. The power of our mind is so incredible so i think if we are thinking negative things or that something is wrong, this can be manifested as an illness. However i think the same goes for feeling good. If we have positive thought and think we are well then again this can manifest in our bodies as being fit  and healthy.

As the body is organic and has a finite lifespan, it is subject to normal biological clocks, susceptibility to foreign body intrusion (as in the case of viruses and bacteria).
However the body is also a very intelligent vessel. It can heal itself, naturally, under normal circumstances.

Sometimes we experience pain as a warning to stop doing something..the mind is not immune to this.

A fever is an indication of an infection being fought by the body. Most other symptoms are the same. That we are used  to taking medication to get away from something..is a conditioned response.

Paying attention to only the negative aspects in life will take toll on the: mind and body. Bad thinking habits have to be changed. Illnesses of the mind may exist in the head but the effect is real.

Yes you are abosuletly right. Most  of our ailments or illnesses are just in our head,  because Whatever is in our mind, it effects our body. If you have negative thouthts in your mind, you will fee depressive and if you have positive thouts in your mind, you will feel happy and motivate. Everything is thinking. Whatever we do, we do according to our thinking. So it is very important to learn to have good thaoughts. When we learn to choose our thoughts, we can live happy, harmonious and peaceful life.

Most ailments are physical effects from our body due to some imbalance in our lifestyle, diets, or environment.  The imbalance can result from excess stress, over consumption of sugar, imbalances in the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio, nutritional deficiencies, etc.   When these inbalances exists, the body can not perform optimally , can not detox, can not repair, and can not fight off illnesses.

I think sometimes there's a mindset which accompanies some of these drugs. I don't like the idea of prescription drug commercials. From that, doctors are overwhelmed by patients asking about all these different drugs and some doctors prescribe them like crazy.

The ads for these drugs make them out to be wonder pills. You see people smiling and enjoying life as you listen to the side-effects.

It is my opinion that some ( not all ) could be created , exaggerated and more complicated in you own mind .

well , according the DSM IV they are in the head.

On a more serious note. with the advent of internet where we can check our own 'ailments' or signs of it (heavily promoted by doctors and medical companies no doubt), we find that we have a LOT of illnesses. and now that i come to think of it, the joke i stated earlier (it was a joke, and i do hope it made you smile) is true. Our mind creates a lot of illnesses and can make manifest them in our body. type A personalities for example are lot more prone to stress and hence heart attacks. But to feel that stress, you need to be that 'type' of person.

more then most want to admit. in Canada we have free health care and one of the draw backs to it is that people abuse it like crazy by going to the doctor for anything they can come up with. these days there is an illness of some kind for everything and it sucks.

Yes most of our illnesses are in our head itself. What we believe normally happens to us. If we ourselves or someone else brings us to believe that we have a toothache it is very likely that soon we will have one.

Our subconscious mind which controls the functioning of most of our involuntary organs and glands inadvertently accepts whatever our voluntary brain believes and creates situations in the body to recreate the situation.

Self hypnosis and self suggestions are similar experiences.
